Purpose of the Role

The Finance Manager will play a critical role in building and operating the Finance function within Bruumi during an exciting period of growth. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a hands-on role requiring a qualified accountant who thrives in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and is motivated by the challenge of supporting the CFO in developing and improving processes, systems, controls, and reporting capabilities as the business grows.

This role is ideal for an ambitious accountant with strong technical accounting skills seeking accelerated career development in a high-growth business. The successful candidate will have significant exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to develop across financial control, reporting, commercial finance, systems, and business operations. They will be comfortable operating outside of a traditional Finance Manager remit and willing to take on a wide variety of projects and responsibilities as the business evolves.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Control & Reporting

  • Take ownership of day-to-day finance operations including bookkeeping oversight, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll review, and cash management.
  • Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, balance sheet reconciliations, and supporting analysis.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in accordance with IFRS, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of financial reporting processes in accordance with IFRS, including IFRS 9 impairment and provisioning requirements.
  • Support the preparation of statutory accounts and annual audits.
  • Maintain a strong financial control environment with appropriate policies, procedures, and governance.
  • Monitor financial risks and proactively identify control improvements.

Management Information & Business Partnering

  • Analyse financial and operational performance, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning processes.
  • Partner with key stakeholders across the business to improve financial understanding and commercial decision-making.
  • Support development of KPI reporting and performance dashboards.

Finance Systems & Process Improvement

  • Support the implementation and optimisation of finance systems, reporting tools, and automation initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, scalability, and control through process redesign and technology.
  • Support finance system enhancements and the development of reporting capabilities.
  • Help establish and document finance processes suitable for a growing regulated business.
  • Support data quality initiatives and ensure the integrity of financial information.

Treasury & Cash Flow Management

  • Support cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning.
  • Monitor banking relationships, payments, and treasury activities.
  • Ensure effective working capital management and cash controls.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

  • Support the maintenance of robust financial controls and governance processes.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting requirements and information requests.
  • Work closely with Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams to ensure financial risks are appropriately managed.
  • Support audit activities and the implementation of audit recommendations.
  • Contribute to the firm's Consumer Duty and broader regulatory obligations where appropriate.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Requirements

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • Newly qualified to 5 years post-qualified experience.
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting experience.
  • Experience preparing management accounts, reconciliations, budgets, and forecasts.
  • Demonstrable experience improving processes, controls, or systems.
  • Strong Excel skills and confidence working with large datasets.
  • Experience operating in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Outstanding organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within lending, consumer finance, fintech, banking, asset finance, or other FCA-regulated businesses.
  • Experience in start-up, scale-up, or private equity-backed organisations.
  • Exposure to finance system implementations or finance transformation projects.
  • Experience using cloud-based finance systems such as iplicit, AccountsIQ, NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or similar.
  • Experience producing reporting and management information using modern reporting and visualisation tools.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Strong financial accounting and management reporting capability.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience preparing budgets, forecasts, and management information.
  • Sound understanding of financial controls and risk management principles.
  • Experience implementing or enhancing finance systems and processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of deliverables.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Commercially minded with the ability to balance control, efficiency, and business growth.
  • Highly adaptable and comfortable operating in an evolving start-up environment.

Regulatory Classification

Bruumi is pursuing FCA authorisation and will operate within the FCA's regulatory framework, including the Senior Managers & Certification Regime (SMCR).

The Finance Manager role is not currently expected to fall within the scope of a Senior Management Function (SMF) or Certified Function. However, as the business develops, the regulatory classification of the role may be reviewed in line with the firm's regulatory obligations, governance structure, and allocation of responsibilities.

The Finance Manager will be expected to:

  • Understand and support the firm's regulatory obligations and governance framework.
  • Operate in accordance with Bruumi's policies, procedures, and conduct standards.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of competence, training, and professional development relevant to the role.
  • Support the preparation of regulatory reporting and information requests, as required.
  • Work collaboratively with Risk, Compliance, and other functions to ensure regulatory requirements are met.
  • Adapt to evolving regulatory responsibilities as the business grows and regulatory expectations develop.

Should the role become subject to specific SMCR requirements in the future, any additional responsibilities, training, or certification requirements will be communicated and documented accordingly.
