Citadel Source are pleased to be working with Jefferis Engineering, a fast-growing mechanical engineering business based in Farrington Gurney, to recruit an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of the day-to-day finance function.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar hands-on finance professional to take responsibility for the full finance function within a growing engineering contractor. Working closely with the Managing Director, you'll provide clear and commercially focused information on cash flow, profitability, project performance and business risk, while taking ownership of management accounts, financial controls and project-commercial reporting.

About you

You are an experienced Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar hands-on finance professional with strong experience across management accounts, cash flow forecasting, month-end and balance-sheet controls. You'll be commercially minded, confident working with operational teams and comfortable challenging information where required. Strong Excel and Xero experience is essential, alongside a good understanding of VAT, CIS, payroll controls, intercompany accounting and year-end preparation. Experience within construction, engineering, M&E or another project-led environment would be highly desirable.

Responsibilities

As a Finance Manager, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Take day-to-day ownership of the finance function, including records, controls, processes and deadlines
  • Produce monthly management accounts, balance-sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Maintain the rolling 13-week cash-flow forecast, annual budget and reforecasts, explaining key movements to the Managing Director
  • Review live project performance, including valuations, applications, variations, retentions, WIP, committed costs and forecast margins
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure accurate valuations, cost-to-complete information and project cost reporting
  • Oversee Xero ledgers, bank reconciliations, payment runs, fixed assets, project codes and accounting controls
  • Review payroll inputs, timesheets, labour costs, expenses and job allocations
  • Manage intercompany recharges and balances, including Jefferis Talent Solutions
  • Review VAT and CIS returns, monitor tax and payroll liabilities and coordinate year-end with external advisers
  • Manage credit control, supplier/payment controls, rebate claims and the financial review of stock reconciliations
  • Coordinate insurance renewals and claims and maintain key finance and commercial systems
  • Provide clear financial reporting and commercial decision support to the Managing Director

What the client is looking for

  • Experience in a Finance Manager, Management Accountant or similar hands-on finance role
  • Strong management accounts, cash-flow forecasting, balance-sheet and month-end experience
  • Practical working knowledge of Xero and strong Excel/spreadsheet skills
  • Experience of project or job-cost accounting
  • Experience within construction, mechanical engineering, M&E or a similar project-led environment is desirable
  • Good working knowledge of VAT, CIS, payroll controls, intercompany accounting and year-end preparation
  • Commercially aware, organised and confident challenging incomplete or inconsistent information
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial issues clearly to the Managing Director and operational teams
  • Able to work independently, manage competing priorities and take ownership of the finance function
  • Proactive approach with a focus on improving processes, controls and reporting
