Hays Accountancy & Finance are exclusively partnering with an expanding construction business who are looking for a sole Finance Manager to join them, as they look to their next phase of business growth.

Your new role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function within a growing construction business. This hands-on role will oversee all day-to-day accounting activities, CIS administration, subcontractor and retention payments, while providing valuable commercial support to the Managing Director and Quantity Surveyors. Using Sage Line 50, you will be responsible for producing accurate management accounts, cashflow forecasts and project cost analysis, helping to drive profitability and support business growth.

  • Manage the day-to-day bookkeeping, sales and purchase ledgers, bank reconciliations and month-end processes.
  • Administer CIS payments, subcontractor deductions and HMRC submissions.
  • Oversee retention accounting, stage payments and project-related financial transactions.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cashflow reports.
  • Produce cashflow forecasts and provide financial analysis to support decision-making.
  • Work closely with Quantity Surveyors to monitor project costs, margins and profitability.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting and commercial reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with VAT, CIS and other financial regulations.
  • Maintain accurate financial records using Sage line 50

What you'll need to succeed

Ideally, you will be a part-qualified or qualified-by-experience accountant with previous finance experience gained within the construction, engineering or wider project-based sector. You will possess strong knowledge of CIS, retention accounting and stage payments, alongside proven experience producing management accounts and cashflow forecasts. Proficiency in Sage 50 and Excel is essential, as is a commercial mindset with the communication and analytical skills needed to support operational and strategic business decision-making.

What you'll get in return

The organisation offers a salary of £40,000 - £45,000 depending on experience, 22 days holiday plus bank holidays, company pension, 37-hour working 5- days on-site, based in Ely.
