Finance Manager – Leeds

A growing regional architectural firm is seeking an experienced Finance Manager to join its head office team in Leeds city centre. This is a key leadership position with responsibility for the full finance function and for providing the strategic financial direction needed to support the company’s continued expansion.

Working closely with senior leaders, you’ll shape financial performance, strengthen governance, and ensure the business has accurate, timely and insightful financial information to guide decision-making.

Role Overview

In this hands-on management role, you will lead all day-to-day financial operations and take ownership of month-end, year-end and statutory reporting. You’ll ensure strong financial controls are in place, maintain compliance, and drive improvements across systems and processes.

Core Responsibilities

  • Finance operations- Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and billing activities
  • Management reporting- Produce monthly management accounts and financial performance reports
  • Budgeting & forecasting- Prepare annual budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections
  • Cash flow oversight- Monitor working capital and ensure financial resilience
  • Financial analysis- Provide commercial insight to support strategic and operational decisions
  • Audit management- Lead the annual audit and act as the main contact for external auditors
  • Compliance- Ensure adherence to UK accounting standards, tax rules and statutory obligations
  • Process improvement- Enhance reporting, systems and internal controls
  • Project profitability -Support operational teams with financial analysis and project performance tracking
  • Additional finance duties- Oversee pensions, insurance renewals and other compliance-related activities
  • Team leadership- Manage and develop an Accounts Assistant

About You

You’ll be a confident finance professional who enjoys a varied, hands-on role and can build strong working relationships across the business.

Ideal Experience

  • Background as a Finance Manager or Senior Accountant
  • Strong management accounting and financial reporting capability
  • Solid experience with budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management
  • Good understanding of accounting standards
  • Experience leading external audits
  • Ability to interpret financial data and provide commercial insight
  • Track record of improving financial processes and controls
  • Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement
  • Experience supervising or developing junior team members

Professional qualifications such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA are desirable, but candidates with strong relevant experience will also be considered.
