About ABM Alliance
ABM Alliance is a fast-growing, Bristol-based B2B events business, trusted by more than 500 organisations worldwide - including Microsoft, AWS, Google Cloud, Cisco and Palo Alto Networks. We design and deliver bespoke, invite-only events that bring senior decision-makers together with the right partners: from virtual roundtables and intimate executive dinners to our two-day Signature Summit Series across the UK and US.
As we scale, we are building out our finance function and are looking for a hands-on, commercially-minded Finance Manager to take ownership of financial reporting, controls and the day-to-day running of finance - including the revenue and margin analysis that sits at the heart of an events business. The role reports to the fractional CFO and works closely with the founders and operational leads. It suits someone qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or qualified by experience, ideally with exposure to events, media, hospitality or another project- or deliverable-based business.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Control
- Own the month-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of management accounts.
- Prepare monthly management accounts packs including analysis, commentary and supporting schedules.
- Maintain full balance sheet integrity through timely reconciliations and robust month-end controls.
- Prepare and post month-end journals including accruals, prepayments, fixed assets and payroll.
- Maintain rolling cash flow forecasts and monitor liquidity requirements.

Revenue, Events & Margin
- Manage revenue recognition across events and summits, ensuring income is recognised as events are delivered and in line with accounting standards.
- Own the deferred revenue schedule - tracking amounts invoiced in advance of events and releasing them correctly as events run.
- Produce event-level (and summit-level) P&Ls, tracking revenue, direct costs and contribution margin by event.
- Analyse margin performance across the event portfolio, identifying variances between actual and forecast and explaining the drivers.
- Support the build of management information on revenue by customer, customer concentration and product mix.
- Review and check sales commission calculations for accuracy against the agreed commission schemes, and resolve any discrepancies.
- Ensure commissions are correctly calculated, accrued and matched to the revenue they relate to, and reconciled to the payroll and payment runs.
Operational Finance
- Ensure supplier invoices are accurately processed, approved and paid on time.
- Ensure billings are accurately posted and reconciled.
- Record and monitor event and project expenses, identifying variances between actual and forecast expenditure.
- Process supplier payment runs and card transactions, ensuring appropriate coding and authorisation controls are maintained.
- Manage staff expenses processes, ensuring correct VAT treatment.

Tax, Payroll & Compliance
- Prepare and submit VAT returns, ensuring accurate VAT treatment and reconciliation requirements are met.
- Maintain compliance, liaising with external accountants and advisors on tax, payroll and statutory requirements.
- Manage the relationship with the external payroll provider, ensuring payroll information reaches them accurately and on time, including for any contractor or off-payroll arrangements.
Business Partnering
- Partner with senior management to provide financial insight, challenge assumptions and support decision-making.
- Help develop the KPI pack, budget and rolling forecast as the finance function matures.
What We Are Looking For
- Qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) or qualified by experience.
- Strong technical grounding in month-end, controls and management accounts.
- Comfortable owning revenue recognition and deferred income — ideally in an events, media, hospitality or project-based business.
- Commercially curious, with the confidence to business-partner with founders and operational leads.
- Hands-on and comfortable in a growing business where the finance function is still being built.
- Good systems skills; experience with cloud accounting software an advantage.
Salary Range
£45k - £60k per annum
