The organisation has recently undergone significant change, including the implementation of a new finance system and an updated team structure. We are now strengthening our finance function to enhance processes, improve reconciliations and controls, and deliver a robust, business‑focused service.
As part of this development, we are appointing a Finance Manager to oversee day‑to‑day financial operations, lead and support the transactional finance team, and drive process improvements across the function. This role will work closely with the Head of Finance to streamline activities, enhance reporting quality, and promote strong engagement with colleagues across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
Day‑to‑Day Financial Operations
- Lead and oversee daily transactional finance activities, ensuring entries to the ledger are timely, accurate, authorised, and fully supported.
- Ensure daily bank clearing, with prompt reconciliation of bank, cash book and petty cash balances; escalate issues immediately.
- Oversee preparation of the monthly payment run, ensuring all invoices are approved, coded correctly and stored within iplicit before submission for approval.
- Ensure all customer receipts are allocated, monthly statements issued, and clear audit trails maintained for aged‑debt management.
Monthly & Quarterly Reporting
- Manage the monthly balance sheet reconciliation process, ensuring all accounts are fully reconciled, supported and reviewed by deadlines; escalate risks or issues promptly.
- Lead the foreign exchange revaluation process, ensuring adjustment journals are accurate and on time.
- Maintain and control the fixed asset register at entity and group level, including monthly depreciation/amortisation postings.
- Support the Head of Finance with monthly payroll processing, ensuring all payroll control accounts are reconciled.
- Prepare draft VAT returns for two entities, ensuring reconciled control accounts and robust supporting evidence; submit drafts to the Head of Finance with sufficient review time.
- Support enhancements to the Management Accounts process, working with departments to resolve issues and ensure compliance with accounting standards.
- Coach and support the team to deliver a finance business partnering approach, improving accuracy and timeliness of departmental reporting.

Annual Accounts & Audit
- Assist the Head of Finance in preparing entity and consolidated annual accounts, ensuring high‑quality working papers and schedules.
- Liaise with external auditors, responding to audit queries promptly and professionally, and helping streamline year‑end processes.
- Identify opportunities to automate, improve and simplify the accounts‑production process.
Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
- Support the Head of Finance in ensuring processes are correctly embedded within iplicit, with strong system‑based controls.
- Manage the chart of accounts, including creation and maintenance of customer and supplier records.
- Oversee the creation and maintenance of process documents, ensuring all monthly tasks are documented, reviewed and tested.
- Support annual review of Accounting Policies, identifying regulatory changes, assessing impacts, and drafting updates where needed.
- Contribute to the identification, testing and implementation of system enhancements.

Leadership & Team Management
- Provide day‑to‑day supervision, guidance and support to team members.
- Hold weekly 1‑to‑1s with direct reports, ensuring clear documentation and follow‑up of actions.
- Lead Quarterly and Annual performance reviews, supporting development and continuous improvement across the team.
- Manage the monthly finance timetable, ensuring all activities are completed accurately and on time.
Ad‑hoc Responsibilities
- Support the Head of Finance with ad‑hoc tasks, projects, and strategic initiatives as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- CCAB‑qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIPFA, ICAS, ICAEW).
- Proven experience managing and supporting finance staff.
- Strong experience working with finance systems (iplicit experience highly desirable).
- Experience preparing VAT returns.
- Experience in management accounts preparation and financial reporting.
Desirable Experience
- Experience leading or supporting change management initiatives.
- Involvement in systems implementation or upgrades.
- Demonstrated success in process improvement within a finance environment.
