ABOUT THE ROLE:
This role sits within our Commercial Finance team, reporting to the Commercial Finance Director. It combines month end ownership of cost P&L lines with a forward looking, stakeholder facing remit: explaining performance to non-finance stakeholders, driving cost initiatives, and leading the business cases and longer term projects that ensure the division’s spend delivers value for money. You will also contribute to the monthly Board pack, giving you regular exposure to senior stakeholder reporting, right up to C-Suite level. The role regularly deals with complex, non-standard problems, and we want someone who will challenge and improve existing ways of working rather than simply apply them.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
- Act as the main finance point of contact for your business area, building strong working relationships with senior leaders and explaining P&L performance in clear, accessible terms for non-finance stakeholders, including C-Suite colleagues.
- Identify, shape and lead cost initiatives across the business area, challenging existing ways of working and taking a fresh perspective to find new, sustainable savings.
- Lead the development of complex business cases for investment, including ROI and payback analysis, and track approved cases through to completion.
- Manage longer term, often ambiguous projects from a finance perspective, resolving complex or non-standard issues and monitoring spend against approved budgets to ensure ongoing value for money.
- Own your designated P&L lines at month end, including preparation and review of accruals and prepayments.
- Own designated sections of the monthly Board pack, ensuring accuracy, clarity and timely delivery, and support the wider team’s budgeting and forecasting cycles.
- Work confidently across NetSuite, Workday Adaptive and Clockify to extract, reconcile and present financial data.
- Act as a technical point of escalation for less experienced finance colleagues, lead improvements to finance processes, and flex into other areas of the Finance team as priorities require.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
