Old Thorns Hotel & Resort is a four-star hotel, set in 400 acres of picturesque Hampshire countryside and offers customers a unique experience all in one place. It is easily accessible from the A3, only 30 minutes from the M25 and Portsmouth.

With bedrooms, residences & penthouses, a championship golf course, meeting and events spaces, restaurants, a health club and a beauty spa, Old Thorns is the ideal destination for our customers to enjoy a night away, staycation, wedding, event, golf break, conference and much more.

Job Description

Old Thorns Hotel & Resort have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager to lead our Finance Team.

We are passionate about hospitality and we aim to provide a smooth and efficient service for our customers, helping to create the best memories.

Main Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day finance function, ensuring accurate, timely and effective financial management across the property.
  • Prepare and review monthly management accounts, providing clear commentary on financial performance, KPIs, variances, risks and opportunities.
  • Lead the annual budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes, ensuring targets align with the wider business strategy.
  • Drive financial performance and profitability across all revenue streams, working closely with Heads of Department to manage budgets, costs, margins and financial accountability.
  • Provide commercially focused financial insight and advice to the General Manager and Senior Leadership Team to support effective decision-making.
  • Manage cash flow and working capital, including debtors, creditors, banking and core finance processes such as purchase ledger, sales ledger and reconciliations.
  • Ensure robust financial controls and compliance across the property, including VAT, tax, payroll, audit, statutory and company reporting requirements.
  • Review capital expenditure proposals and monitor approved investment to ensure projects remain within budget and deliver appropriate commercial value.
  • Lead, manage and develop the Finance team, while maintaining strong relationships with auditors, accountants, banks, suppliers and other key stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve finance processes, systems and reporting to enhance efficiency, accuracy, financial visibility and commercial performance.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Valid Right to Work in the UK - sponsorship is not available for this position
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills, with a proactive and practical approach to managing competing priorities and meeting deadlines.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of key drivers of revenue, costs, margins and profitability.
  • Experience working closely with operational teams and senior management.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills, with the ability to analyse financial information, identify trends and communicate key findings clearly.
  • Excellent attention to detail.

Desirable

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) or similar is advantageous but not essential.
  • Experience in a senior finance role, ideally within hospitality, leisure, hotels or a similar multi-revenue business is desirable.
  • Experience using Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
