Job Description
Assistant Accountant
Location: Cardiff
Salary: £35-40,000
Contract: Permanent
Working pattern: Full-time, on site
Vargo is supporting a growing Cardiff-based business with the appointment of an Assistant Accountant on a permanent basis.
This is a hands-on finance role suited to someone who can take ownership of day-to-day finance, month-end reporting, and internal financial controls. The role would suit an ambitious finance professional who is looking for a broad, visible role within a growing business.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts and support month-end close.
- Manage reconciliations, journals, accruals, and prepayments.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow reporting.
- Oversee purchase ledger, sales ledger, and credit control activity.
- Produce financial analysis and reporting for senior management.
- Support VAT returns and statutory reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate records and robust internal controls.
- Work closely with operational teams to improve financial visibility.
- Support process improvements across the finance function.

About You
You will have solid practical finance experience and be comfortable working in an office-based role. Qualified status would be great but is not essential. Study support is available.

You Should Be
- Confident preparing management accounts or supporting month-end reporting.
- Comfortable with reconciliations, journals, and financial analysis.
- Organised, accurate, and able to manage competing deadlines.
- Commercially aware and willing to work closely with non-finance colleagues.
- Keen to develop within a broad Finance Manager position.
