Part-Time Finance Manager – SME / Hands-On
Steadman Brown is a specialist technology recruitment business, and we're looking for an experienced, hands-on Finance Manager to join our own internal team and take ownership of our finance function.
Founded in 2017, we've grown into an established recruitment business specialising in the Salesforce and HubSpot markets. We're now looking for someone who can take day-to-day ownership of finance across our group of businesses and work closely with the Directors as we continue to grow.
This is a role for someone who enjoys working in an SME environment where they can both do the day-to-day finance work and own the bigger picture.
You won't have a large finance team underneath you, and equally, we're not looking for a Finance Director or Head of Finance. We need someone comfortable personally managing invoicing, credit control and month-end, while also giving the Directors clear visibility over cash, profitability and financial performance.
What You’ll Own:
You’ll have day-to-day responsibility for the finance function, including:
- Raising and managing client invoices
- Supplier bills, expenses and reconciliations
- Credit control and aged debt management
- Xero management, coding and reconciliations
- Contractor billing, timesheets and associated payments
- Payroll preparation, commissions and bonus calculations
- Month-end processes and reporting
- Cash-flow management and forecasting
- Maintaining visibility of upcoming liabilities, including VAT, corporation tax and payroll
- Monthly and quarterly management reporting covering revenue, profitability, cash, costs and debtors
- Working with our external accountants where required
- Improving finance processes, controls and automation

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
Graduate Consultant — 2026 Scheme
Why you're a good match

See breakdownIt searches the market for you
Every day your agent scans the market matching roles against what actually matters to you, not just keywords on a CV.
Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
A key part of the role will be turning the numbers into simple, useful management information. We want the Directors to have a clear view of where the business stands today, what's coming in and going out, and what the next 3–6 months look like.
Who We’re Looking For
We're looking for someone who has already had broad, hands-on responsibility for finance within an SME or similarly autonomous environment.
You may currently be a Finance Manager, Company Accountant, Management Accountant or similar.
The important thing is that you're comfortable owning the function while still being hands-on with the work yourself.

You'll ideally have:
- Previous responsibility for a broad SME finance function
- Strong Xero experience
- Experience producing management accounts and cash-flow forecasts
- Confidence managing credit control and debtor positions
- Good understanding of payroll, VAT and general finance operations
- Strong Excel skills
- The ability to explain financial information clearly to non-finance Directors
- A proactive approach – spotting issues and improving processes rather than waiting to be asked
Experience within recruitment, staffing, consultancy or professional services would be particularly useful, but isn't essential.
The Role
This is a genuine part-time position, likely around 2–3 days per week, rather than a full-time role compressed into fewer days.
We're open to discussing how those hours are structured for the right person.
We operate a hybrid model and would like someone who can spend some of their time working with us in the office.
Salary: £40,000–£50,000 FTE, pro rata depending on experience.
