Job Introduction
Are you a qualified finance professional who thrives on driving change, improving processes, and delivering meaningful business transformation? At Tarmac, we have an exciting opportunity for a Finance Manager – Projects to play a pivotal role within our Finance Transformation Programme, a strategically important initiative that is shaping the future of Finance across the business.
This is far more than a traditional finance role. Sitting at the intersection of finance expertise, technology, and project delivery, you'll have the opportunity to lead high-profile transformation projects, influence how finance operates across the organisation, and contribute to Tarmac's journey towards future-ready systems and processes, including S/4HANA readiness.
Working with stakeholders across Finance, Technology, Shared Services, and the wider business, you'll take ownership of projects from concept through to implementation and benefits realisation, helping to create smarter, simpler, and more effective ways of working.
What You'll Be Doing
As Finance Manager – Projects, you'll lead and deliver a range of finance transformation initiatives, ensuring projects are successfully executed from initial problem definition through to implementation and measurable business outcomes.
You will:
- Lead finance-focused transformation projects and workstreams, managing the full project lifecycle from business case development through to delivery and benefits realisation
- Analyse current finance processes, identify inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement, and design future-state solutions that drive standardisation and operational excellence
- Act as the finance subject matter expert on system and transformation projects, helping translate finance requirements into practical business and technology solutions
- Support major finance system initiatives, including process mapping, data quality improvements, migration readiness activities, and finance transformation programmes
- Lead finance-owned User Acceptance Testing (UAT), ensuring systems and processes deliver accurate outputs and meet business requirements
- Develop robust, evidence-based business cases, quantifying benefits, tracking ROI, and providing recommendations that balance opportunity and risk
- Ensure compliance, financial controls, and data integrity remain at the heart of all project activity, including within a SOX-controlled environment
- Build strong relationships across Finance, Technology, Shared Services, Transformation, and wider business teams, supporting change adoption and continuous improvement
- Champion new technologies, automation opportunities, and AI-enabled tools that improve efficiency and enhance finance operations

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
