Finance Manager - London - High Growth Specialist Financial Services SME
My client, a growing financial services business, is looking for a qualified accountant to take ownership of day-to-day finance operations and month-end, reporting into the Financial Controller.
This is a broad, hands-on role. It suits someone a year or two post-qualification who wants exposure across the whole finance function and the chance to shape processes as the team scales.
What you'll be doing:
- Owning AR, AP and the finance inbox, and setting priorities for a Finance Assistant
- Running the month-end timetable, including journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance-sheet and bank reconciliations
- Supporting management accounts, budget-vs-actual reporting and variance commentary
- Managing payroll inputs, expenses, supplier records and fixed assets
- Preparing monthly commission calculations and investigating variances
- Producing audit schedules and keeping processes documented and controlled
- Finding ways to automate and streamline recurring work

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
