OSL Cutting Technologies - Finance Manager Opportunity

Elevation Recruitment Group is exclusively partnering with OSL Cutting Technologies, a Sheffield-based engineering and manufacturing business with a heritage dating back to 1865. The company, known for its high-quality metal-cutting tools under brands like Rotabroach and Unibor, is entering an exciting new phase and seeks a new Finance Manager.

About the Role

OSL Cutting Technologies is a renowned international business specializing in the design, manufacture, and distribution of metal-cutting tools. As the company sharpens its commercial focus, maximizing profitability, and emphasizing sales, distribution, and customer-facing activities, this Finance Manager role presents an excellent opportunity to join at a pivotal time. The role will be instrumental in transforming current processes and systems, making it ideal for someone who enjoys involvement in such projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare and review accurate monthly management accounts and board reporting packs.
    • Provide insightful variance analysis and commentary against budget and forecast.
    • Review balance sheet reconciliations, P&L analysis, and fixed asset accounting.
    • Lead year-end audit preparation and act as the key finance contact for auditors.
    • Review management accounts and provide feedback, coaching, and support to the wider finance team.
  • Leadership & Mentoring:

    • Lead daily finance team meetings, monitoring KPIs, workload, and priorities.
    • Coach and mentor team members, supporting skills development and cross-training.
    • Conduct regular one-to-ones and performance reviews.
    • Manage holiday cover to ensure effective continuity across the finance function.

  • Financial Control:

    • Maintain a robust financial control environment and ensure key SOPs are maintained and followed.
    • Own the month-end close process across all NetSuite ledgers.
    • Oversee purchase and sales ledger controls, including supplier/customer onboarding, reconciliations, credit control, and payment runs.
    • Monitor credit risk, bad debt provisions, and customer credit limits.
    • Ensure effective bank reconciliation and payment controls.
    • Oversee inventory controls, including stock counts, reconciliations, slow-moving stock, scrap, and stock adjustments.
    • Support standard costing, inventory variance analysis, and ongoing process improvements.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting:

    • Monitor departmental spend and work with budget holders to drive budget adherence.
    • Support the annual budgeting and forecasting process.
  • Compliance:

    • Ensure compliance with VAT, Corporation Tax, customs, audit, and wider Group reporting requirements.
    • Support internal and external audit processes and provide accurate information within required deadlines.

Ideal Candidate

  • Qualifications:

    • ACA / ACCA / CIMA Qualified (or Qualified by Experience where appropriate)
  • Experience:

    • Experience in a manufacturing or stock-based business
    • Team management experience
    • Budgeting and forecasting experience
    • Good business partnering skills with the ability to deal with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
    • Good IT/Systems knowledge (Especially with ERP Systems)
    • Inventory accounting
    • Cash flow experience
    • Inquisitive nature
    • Good commercial acumen
