Hays are delighted to be partnering with a well-established and highly respected professional services organisation in Chelmsford to recruit a Finance Manager.
This newly created position offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to lead the finance function, influence strategic decision-making and play a key role in supporting continued growth and success. Working closely with senior leadership and department heads, you will take ownership of financial operations, reporting, compliance and controls while leading a dedicated finance team. This is an ideal opportunity for someone who enjoys combining technical excellence with commercial insight and wants to make a visible contribution within a collaborative and people-focused business environment.
Your new role
As Finance Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of the finance function, ensuring robust financial processes and delivering accurate, timely financial information to support business performance.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Leading and developing the finance team
- Managing cash flow and supporting financial planning activities
- Overseeing accounts operations, supplier payments and financial controls
- Producing insightful financial reports and management information
- Managing month-end and year-end processes
- Overseeing the preparation of management and statutory accounts
- Managing VAT, tax compliance and HMRC reporting
- Monitoring credit control, aged debt and cash collection performance
- Managing payroll processes in conjunction with HR
- Building strong relationships with external advisers, banking partners and suppliers
- Driving continuous improvement across finance processes and controls

What you'll need to succeed
To be successful in this role, you will be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) with experience leading a finance function within a professional services or regulated environment.
You will bring:
- A recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA or CIMA)
- Strong financial management, reporting and compliance experience
- Proven experience of management accounts, financial controls and cashflow management
- Experience of accounting, payroll and finance systems
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills
- A commercial mindset combined with exceptional attention to detail
- A proactive, collaborative and solutions-focused approach

Desired Skills and Experience
- Qualified Accountant with experience of managing a finance team and developing processes, controls and management reporting. Good IT skills including Excel.
- Good communication skills with the ability to provide business partner support to Directors and Senior Management Team.
- Good technical skills to be point of contact to auditors and bank.
