The Opportunity
This is not a maintenance-only finance role. The successful candidate will personally run the finance function while acting as a commercial partner: improving cash conversion, protecting margin, challenging cost, helping teams quote quickly and accurately, and implementing smart initiatives from idea through to measurable result.
Role Purpose
- Own and deliver the complete finance function across the three businesses, with the majority of time focused on Sagoss.
- Ensure accounting, reporting and compliance obligations are accurate and completed on time.
- Strengthen cash flow through prompt invoicing, active credit control and eliminating avoidable payment delays.
- Provide commercial finance support to Sales and Bids, including quotations, tenders, upsells, renewals and annual price increases.
- Identify and implement practical cost-saving, automation and profitability initiatives.
- Build scalable finance processes and controls in Xero.
Key Responsibilities
Finance Operations, Accounting and Compliance
- Own the purchase ledger, sales ledger, bank and card reconciliations, journals, accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, intercompany entries and control accounts.
- Run payment runs, reconciliations, month-end close and year-end preparation.
- Prepare accurate management accounts for each business and the group, including profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow, variance analysis and commentary.
- Manage payroll, pensions, PAYE/NI data and relevant HMRC submissions.
- Prepare and submit VAT returns and maintain a compliance calendar for HMRC, statutory, tax and filing deadlines.
- Coordinate statutory accounts, corporation tax support and year-end information with external advisers.
Invoicing, Credit Control and Cash Management
- Ensure customer invoices are raised accurately and promptly with the correct supporting information.
- Maintain a live invoice pipeline so completed work, recurring charges, projects, licences, services and approved upsells are not missed or delayed.
- Own credit control end to end: contact customers, resolve queries and escalate overdue accounts appropriately.
- Issue a weekly aged-debt report with actions and dates for material overdue balances.
- Produce and maintain a rolling 13-week cash-flow forecast, highlighting risks, collection priorities and payment timing.
- Improve working capital through better billing discipline, payment terms, deposits, milestone invoicing, supplier terms and collection processes.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
