Competitive Salary | Full Time, On-site | Exeter

Cathedral Appointments is recruiting on behalf of a well-established, growing manufacturing business in Exeter for an experienced Finance Manager to take ownership of its finance function. This is a hands-on role at the heart of the business, combining accurate reporting and strong financial control with a genuine contribution to strategic decisions.

The Role

You will lead the finance function day to day, from producing the monthly management accounts and year end accounts to building the management information that allows the business to make decisions in real time. You will manage the Assistant Accountant and payroll, act as the finance point of contact for customers, suppliers and employees, and keep improving the systems and processes that sit behind it all. It suits a commercially minded finance professional who is equally comfortable with the detail and with advising senior colleagues.

Responsibilities for the Finance Manager

  • Produce the full monthly management accounts pack, with commentary and analysis, along with the year end accounts.
  • Develop and maintain a management information suite, including KPIs and budget and forecast tracking, to support real-time business decisions.
  • Advise on and maintain robust financial controls, policies and procedures, and continually look for ways to make systems, processes and outputs more efficient.
  • Manage a small finance team.
  • Run payroll and its associated processes, including expenses and commission payments, and liaise with customers, suppliers and employees on financial matters.
  • Support the audit process, assist with company secretarial matters, collate information for the corporation tax computation, and provide financial guidance and analysis on strategic decisions, alongside oversight of IT contracts, utilities and insurance.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
