Finance Manager
Birmingham, Fully Remote.
Permanent/ Full Time.
£40,000 - £50,000 per annum.
We are working with a fast-growing healthcare services business to recruit a Finance Manager during an exciting phase of continued growth and development.
The organisation delivers specialist services across the healthcare sector, supporting clients with complex operational challenges and delivering large-scale, project-based programmes. Continued growth has increased the scale and complexity of the business, creating the need to strengthen its finance function and further develop its financial reporting, controls and commercial insight.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, this is a broad and hands-on Finance Manager position offering exposure across management reporting, financial control, cash management and project profitability.
The successful candidate will work closely with both the CFO and operational teams, developing a strong understanding of business performance while helping to build the processes, controls and financial information required to support the organisation’s continued growth.

Key Responsibilities
Management Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Prepare and support the production of monthly management accounts, including profit and loss, balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
- Take ownership of the month-end close, including accruals, prepayments, journals, depreciation and other accounting adjustments.
- Prepare clear analysis and commentary explaining material movements and variances.
- Maintain robust balance sheet reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.
- Produce financial schedules, analysis and management information for the CFO, Board and wider leadership team.
Project & Commercial Reporting
- Review project revenue, expenditure and associated margins.
- Partner with operational teams to ensure income and costs are recognised accurately and within the correct accounting period.
- Provide analysis to improve visibility over individual project performance and profitability.
- Investigate financial variances and provide meaningful insight to support operational and commercial decision-making.
Financial Control & Compliance
- Prepare VAT reconciliations and returns, ensuring transactions are treated correctly and appropriate supporting documentation is maintained.
- Review payroll information and reconciliations and support the accurate accounting of payroll-related costs and liabilities.
- Prepare supporting schedules for statutory accounts, corporation tax, audit and other external review processes.
- Ensure accounting records remain accurate and compliant with UK accounting requirements and internal policies.
- Strengthen financial controls across revenue, purchasing, payments, expenses, payroll and balance sheet accounts.
Cash & Working Capital
- Maintain oversight of customer invoicing, cash allocation and aged debt.
- Support credit control and help ensure overdue balances remain within agreed targets.
- Oversee the accurate processing of supplier invoices, contractor payments and expenses.
- Complete and review bank, credit card and payment platform reconciliations.
- Support invoice finance reconciliations, funding reports and the accurate accounting of associated receipts, liabilities and fees.

Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate financial information within Xero and connected finance systems.
- Identify opportunities to automate and simplify existing finance processes.
- Improve the quality, consistency and visibility of financial information across the organisation.
- Support the development and documentation of finance policies and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with operational colleagues to improve financial understanding and adherence to agreed processes.
Candidate Profile
- AAT qualified, Part-Qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA, Qualified Accountant or QBE.
- Minimum three years’ relevant accounting experience, including practical responsibility for month-end close, reconciliations and management reporting.
- Strong understanding of double-entry accounting, accruals, VAT and balance sheet control.
- Strong Excel skills with experience using cloud-based accounting systems; Xero experience would be advantageous.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to investigate variances, identify issues and turn financial data into meaningful information.
- Commercial mindset with an interest in understanding the operational activity behind the numbers.
- Confident communicator, able to build effective relationships with both finance and non-finance stakeholders.
- Comfortable operating within a growing SME environment and taking ownership of a broad and varied workload.
- Previous exposure to project accounting, margin analysis or invoice finance would also be beneficial.
