Finance Manager
Part-time, 22.5 hrs preferably worked over 4 days
£28,500 (£47,500 FTE)
- 25 days annual leave plus 8 bank holidays
- 5% pension contribution

This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional with a particular interest in historic buildings to help ensure we have solid financial foundations to build the future direction of England’s earliest open-air museum of buildings.
This is a key leadership position within the charity, reporting directly to the Museum Director and taking responsibility for managing the day-to-day finance officer. Your accounting qualifications and experience will ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and effective budgeting and forecasting. You will work closely with the small team, providing support and insight for all budget holders and ensuring the charity has up-to-date and accurate financial information to assist with forward planning and cost management.
Familiarity with charity accounting standards (SORP) would be an advantage, but not essential for someone with sufficient general experience and ability to learn. We are open to discussing a flexible working pattern with the right candidate.

Company Description
Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings is an open-air museum in rural Worcestershire, home to more than 30 rescued and reconstructed historic buildings and structures. Set across 19 acres, the site includes period gardens, a wildflower meadow, a traditional cider and perry orchard, and a nationally significant collection of buildings and exhibits. Founded in 1964 and opened to the public in 1967, Avoncroft is England’s first open-air museum and has carefully relocated and cared for structures ranging from a fourteenth-century cathedral hall roof to a 1990s Internet Payphone Kiosk.
Role Description
The Finance Manager is a part-time role responsible for overseeing the financial management and reporting of Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings. This hybrid position is based in Bromsgrove, with the flexibility to work from home for part of the week. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing budgets, forecasting, and cash flow, preparing monthly and annual accounts, and ensuring accurate financial records in line with relevant regulations and best practices. The role will oversee financial controls, support audit and compliance activities, and work closely with senior leadership to provide financial analysis that informs strategic and operational decisions. The Finance Manager will also contribute to funding and grant applications, monitor project expenditure, and help develop financial policies and procedures to support the Museum’s long-term sustainability.

Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience in financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow oversight.
- Strong skills in financial reporting, management accounts preparation, and variance analysis.
- Proficiency with accounting software and spreadsheets, with the ability to maintain accurate digital and paper financial records.
- Knowledge of relevant financial regulations, audit practices, and charity or not-for-profit finance (museum or heritage sector experience is an asset).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work constructively with leadership, trustees, and external partners.
- Proven ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a hybrid environment.
- Relevant professional qualification (e.g., ACCA, CIMA, ACA) or equivalent experience in a similar finance leadership role.
