Introduction to Street Child
Street Child works to ensure that children are safe, in school and learning, particularly in low-resource and crisis-affected communities. Since our foundation, we have supported more than 1.8 million children. We are ambitious about reaching many more, and strong financial management is essential to delivering that ambition.
The Finance Officer will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial records, managing income and receivables, supporting month-end processes and helping the wider finance team operate effectively.
Role Purpose:
The Finance Officer is a key member of the HQ Finance team. The role has primary responsibility for recording and reconciling income, managing accounts receivable and supporting effective credit control. It also contributes to month-end reporting, subsidiary accounts, payroll payments, accounts payable and the annual audit.
This is a varied role offering exposure to income accounting, month-end reporting, subsidiary accounts, audit and payment processes. The postholder will work within an experienced finance team and collaborate closely with Fundraising and international finance colleagues.
Key Responsibilities:
1) Income, CRM and accounts receivable management – 50%
Main responsibilities:
- Record all income accurately and promptly into Salesforce and the Aqilla finance system.
- Complete the weekly reconciliation of Salesforce to Aqilla
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies, including missing information and data errors, and recommend any resulting process improvements
- Work with Fundraising colleagues to analyse and code income across a variety of fundraising events and data sources.
- Work with relevant colleagues to confirm the correct allocation and funding restrictions, then raise donor invoices and issue receipts.
- Maintain the accounts receivable ledger and circulate a weekly aged-debt report.
- Ensure full trail of supporting documentation is stored on Salesforce, Aqilla and Shared folders
- Coordinate timely and appropriate follow-up of overdue balances.
- Reconcile income and customer accounts and complete month-end foreign-currency revaluations where required.
- Complete donor onboarding promptly and accurately.

2) Month-end, reconciliations and subsidiary reporting – 30%
Main responsibilities:
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, including prepayments and accruals, for approval by the HQ Finance Manager.
- Ensure that transaction documentation—including bank statements, remittance advice and credit-card statements—is complete and stored correctly in Microsoft Teams
- Prepare Statutory Financial Statements for two subsidiary companies: Sierra Leone Marathon and Bread and Water for Africa.
- Provide information for Gift Aid returns.
- Participate in the annual audit by providing complete, accurate and clearly organised information to auditors.
3) Accounts Payable support and payment delivery – 20%
Main responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Finance Assistant, providing payment guidance and cover the role of making payments and processing invoices processing when required.
- Prepare monthly creditor account reconciliations ensuring that all balances are valid and backed up with appropriate supporting documentation.
- Issue monthly staff credit-card reconciliation reports and follow up to ensure that complete returns are received on time.
- Set up all payroll payments accurately and in time for the agreed payday.
- Undertake other reasonable duties consistent with the scope and level of the role.
Person Specification
Education / Qualifications
Essential
- Post-GCSE qualification such as A-Level or T-level or equivalent
- Sound understanding of double-entry bookkeeping.
- Studying towards, or part-qualified in, a recognised accountancy qualification, or equivalent relevant finance experience.
Desirable
- Full accountancy qualification

Experience and Knowledge
Essential
- Confident use of Excel, including formulas, lookups, filtering and reconciliation of financial data
- Experience using Microsoft Teams or another shared digital workspace to collaborate and maintain records
- Experience of working in a similar role
- Experience of using a CRM
Desirable
- Charity or third sector experience.
