Job Title: Finance Officer

Location: Alfreton, Derbyshire (Office-Based)

Salary: £40,000 per annum + Benefits

About the Role

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established and growing business seeking an experienced Finance Officer to join its finance team.

This is a varied and hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys working across multiple areas of finance within a fast-paced environment. You'll take ownership of payroll, purchase ledger, reconciliations, and month-end processes while supporting the wider finance function to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the department.

Working as part of a close-knit team, you'll play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting management reporting, and delivering a high standard of financial administration across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process weekly and monthly payroll for approximately 45 employees using Sage Payroll
  • Maintain payroll records and ensure accurate submissions to HMRC, including annual P11D reporting
  • Administer pension contributions and payroll-related compliance
  • Manage the purchase ledger, including invoice matching, processing, and supplier reconciliations
  • Prepare weekly payment runs and process supplier payments through online banking systems
  • Reconcile supplier accounts and allocate payments accurately
  • Process employee expenses and private mileage claims
  • Complete bank and debtor reconciliations
  • Prepare month-end journals and support month-end close activities
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Provide general finance and administrative support to the wider team as required

Candidate Profile

  • Previous experience in a Finance Officer, Accounts Assistant, Finance Assistant, or similar finance role
  • Experience processing payroll using Sage Payroll or similar payroll software
  • Strong purchase ledger and accounts administration experience
  • Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy
  • Confident using Microsoft Excel and finance systems, ideally Sage
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Able to work independently while contributing positively to a small team
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships internally and externally
  • High levels of integrity and discretion when handling confidential financial information

An AAT qualification or equivalent finance qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
