Hays are recruiting on behalf of a well-established public sector organisation based in Belfast who are seeing a Finance Officer to join its finance team. The organisation offers a collaborative working environment, a strong focus on professional standards, and the opportunity to gain valuable experience within the public sector.
Your new role
As Finance Officer, you will support the day-to-day operation of a busy finance function, ensuring the efficient processing of financial transactions and maintaining accurate financial records.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the finance inbox and responding to finance-related queries.
- Reviewing and validating financial documentation prior to processing.
- Processing supplier invoices and supporting regular payment runs.
- Monitoring payment deadlines and assisting with financial performance reporting.
- Preparing monthly bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Supporting internal and external audit requirements.
- Assisting with statutory and ad hoc financial returns.
- Providing general administrative support to the wider finance team.

What you'll need to succeed
- Previous experience processing purchase or supplier invoices within a finance environment.
- Experience completing bank reconciliations accurately and to deadlines.
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
- Excellent organisational skills with strong attention to detail.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within a busy team environment.
- Experience using finance systems or accounting software. Experience with Sage 200 would be advantageous.

- £30,458 salary equivalent
- Ongoing temporary assignment with the potential for permanency
- Full-time working hours (37 hours per week)
