About the job
We are seeking an experienced Finance Officer to join the team to manage day-to-day financial operations at the Cambridge Econometrics UK office. Working in the Group Shared Services team, and reporting to our Chief Operations Officer, you will work in close collaboration with our outsourced finance team, other third party vendors as well as other teams within the group shared services.
Think processing transactions, reconciliations, reporting, and supporting the wider team with accurate financial information. Workload varies through the year, with certain periods (month-end, year-end, budget cycles) significantly busier than others, so the ability to manage shifting priorities is essential.
We're a hands-on, close-knit team where people pitch in wherever needed. We value practical problem-solvers over rigid process-followers — someone who can spot what needs doing and get on with it, rather than waiting to be told. Communication is informal but direct: we'd rather someone flag an issue early than let it sit.
Who we're looking for
- Detail-oriented — comfortable working with numbers where small errors have real consequences, and takes pride in getting things right the first time
- Adaptable — can adjust workflows and pace as demands change, especially during busy periods, without losing accuracy or composure
- Flexible — happy to shift between tasks and priorities as the business requires
- A strong communicator — able to explain financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues, and comfortable raising questions or flagging concerns
- Hands-on and experienced — someone who's done this work before and can get stuck in from day one, not someone who needs extensive hand-holding
- Comfortable with unpredictability — new or one-off tasks come up regularly, and the ideal candidate treats this as part of the job rather than a distraction from it

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
