Forest First Tutoring Ltd is a growing education provider supporting children and young people across Hampshire. We provide high-quality private tuition and Alternative Provision, working closely with families, schools and local authorities to support learners with a wide range of needs, including SEND and those who may be struggling to access traditional education. Our team includes experienced teachers, specialist tutors and education professionals who share a commitment to helping young people rebuild confidence, re-engage with learning and achieve their potential. Role Description
Forest First Tutoring Ltd is looking for an experienced, highly organised and financially confident Finance Officer to join our growing team.
This is a hands-on finance role requiring someone with substantial experience of Xero and financial accounting systems who can ensure that our day-to-day financial processes are accurate, efficient and well controlled.
The successful candidate will initially work closely with our Finance & Administration Lead to become familiar with our existing systems and processes. As the role develops, there will be the opportunity to take increasing responsibility for the day-to-day finance function.
The position will initially be for two days per week, approximately 10.00 am–2.00 pm, with the potential for the hours and responsibilities to increase.

Key responsibilities
The role will include:
- Maintaining accurate financial records within Xero
- Raising and issuing invoices accurately and promptly
- Monitoring outstanding accounts and proactively chasing overdue payments
- Reconciling bank accounts, payments and financial transactions
- Managing accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Processing and checking supplier and subcontractor invoices
- Supporting VAT preparation and maintaining accurate VAT records
- Supporting and potentially taking responsibility for payroll
- Reconciling payroll and associated employment costs
- Monitoring cash flow and highlighting potential concerns
- Producing regular financial and management reports
- Reporting clearly on income, expenditure, debtors and cash position
- Supporting budgeting and financial forecasting
- Working with our external accountant and other professional advisers
- Reviewing financial processes and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
- Providing the Directors with accurate financial information to support business decision-making
About you
We are looking for someone with strong practical finance experience who is highly competent in Xero and comfortable taking responsibility for financial processes from beginning to end.
You will be meticulous, highly numerate and exceptionally well organised with the confidence to investigate discrepancies and follow financial matters through to resolution.

Experience of payroll, VAT, credit control, reconciliations and financial reporting would be particularly valuable. Advanced practical experience of Xero is essential.
An accounting or bookkeeping qualification such as AAT would be advantageous, although substantial relevant experience will be equally important.

We need someone who can do more than process transactions. You should be able to understand the figures, identify when something does not look right and provide clear and useful financial information to the Directors.
Above all, we are looking for someone who is trustworthy, proactive, accurate and dependable and who genuinely wants to become part of the Forest First Tutoring team.
Hours
Initially 8 hours per week across two days, 10.00 am–2.00 pm.
There is potential for the position to grow as the finance requirements of the business continue to develop.
