Finance Officer for The Burton at Bideford

The Finance Officer is responsible for the efficient day-to-day financial administration of The Burton at Bideford, ensuring accurate financial records, effective financial controls and high-quality financial processing across both the charity and its trading subsidiary.

Job Details

  • Job Title: Finance Officer
  • Contract: Part time (21 hours per week)
  • Duration: Permanent (3-month probationary period)
  • Salary: £16,800 - £18,000 per year (£28,000 - £30,000 full time equivalent)
  • Hours: The Burton works on a 7-day rota and the hours can be worked flexibly over the full week dependent on operational need. Some weekend and evening work will be required on a rota basis.
  • Location: The Burton at Bideford, EX39 2QQ. Occasional flexible/home-working is offered but the majority of the working week will be at The Burton.
  • Responsible to: Deputy Director (Operations and Business Development)
  • Responsible for: This post has no line management responsibilities but may be required to oversee freelancers, interns and volunteers on occasion.

  • Significant experience in finance administration, bookkeeping or management accounting.
  • Experience managing purchase and sales ledgers, administering payroll and preparing VAT returns.
  • Confidence using cloud-based accounting software (Xero desirable) and a good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • An understanding of working with integrated systems and experience resolving mapping issues across services (i.e. between Shopify, Xero and bank accounts).
  • Experience of confidential record keeping, HR administration and GDPR compliance.
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Experience working within a charity, arts, museum or cultural venue with a trading subsidiary structure.
  • An understanding of charity finance, restricted funds and Gift Aid.
  • An AAT qualification or studying towards AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • An interest in arts, heritage or culture.
