Hays Accountancy & Finance are exclusively partnering with an established & prestigious educational organisation to recruit a dynamic & hands-on Finance Officer/Credit controller to join their team in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire.

Your new role

Reporting directly to the Billing & Collections Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of fees and income, ensuring billing is accurate, along with credit control processes to ensure overdue accounts are monitored and followed up professionally. This is an exciting and varied opportunity for a Finance Officer/Credit Controller to join the organisation through a period of process improvement and change, where you can really add value and make the role your own. Best suited to finance professionals with previous Credit Control experience, who enjoy relationship building both internally & externally.

Your key duties will involve credit control processes, including monitoring outstanding fees, managing payment plans and escalating any issues to senior management, along with assisting with debt reporting. You will prepare and issue termly fee bills, reconcile billing accounts, maintain accurate customer records, reconcile payments, resolve accounts queries directly with the customers, along with supporting process improvement projects for the billing/income processes. You will prepare and process direct debit collections, administer direct debit processes in compliance with BACs regulations, and investigate any failed collections. You will support maintaining the fees billing system, working closely with other teams around the organisation to ensure accurate data input. This is an evolving and changing position where you can really add value working within a close-knit team, reporting directly to the Billing & Collections Manager.

What you'll need to succeed

To be considered for this permanent Finance Officer/Credit Control role, you will need some experience in a similar position, a team player who is comfortable working within a close-knit team. A strong problem solver capable of using their own initiative, experience of accurate data management for invoicing and proven experience of debtor management. The ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines with high accuracy, excellent communication skills and a telephone manner to build both internal and external relationships. Experience with financial systems, adaptable to organisational needs, and a process improvement mind-set. Experience within the education sector or school finance, billing systems, business to customer collections and knowledge of direct debit collections would be advantageous but not essential.
