Finance Operations Manager

Salary up to £65,000

Gateshead | Full-time | Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm

In this role, you’ll lead the operational engine of Northern Gas and Power’s finance function. When payroll needs to land on time, when management accounts need to close across seven jurisdictions, when a supplier query or cash flow question needs resolving, your team handles it, and you make sure it runs.

As Finance Operations Manager, you’ll sit between the Finance Operations Director and a team of 15 across payroll, management accounts, treasury, purchase ledger, and sales ledger. Through 4 direct reports, you’ll own the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of core finance operations — and drive the improvements that make them better.

If you’re looking for a role where you can combine hands-on financial leadership with genuine operational ownership in a growing, international business, this is it.

What you’ll actually be doing

  • Leading the end-to-end payroll process, ensuring accuracy and HMRC compliance across statutory deductions, RTI submissions, and year-end reporting (P60s, P11Ds)
  • Managing the preparation and consolidation of management accounts across 20 entities in 7 jurisdictions, including UK, Malta, and UAE
  • Producing profit & loss, balance sheet, and cash flow statements for each entity, with variance analysis and clear commentary for senior leadership
  • Overseeing daily cash management, cash flow forecasting, and liquidity planning, including foreign exchange exposure where applicable
  • Running the purchase ledger function — invoice processing, approval workflows, supplier reconciliations, and payment practices reporting
  • Owning the sales ledger and credit control process, minimising debtor days and managing aged debt
  • Producing financial reports, KPI dashboards, and management information packs for the board, senior leadership, and external stakeholders
  • Supporting the annual audit, statutory accounts preparation, and regulatory filings (Companies House, HMRC, ONS, quarterly VAT returns)
  • Setting objectives and conducting performance reviews for direct reports, building capability and succession depth across the team
  • Acting as a key escalation point for complex or high-risk finance issues

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

A typical day will involve a mix of structured close processes, team oversight, and reactive problem-solving. Some days you’ll be reviewing consolidated management accounts or preparing cash flow variance analysis. Other days, a payment issue, audit query, or resourcing gap will need your attention immediately. Flexibility is key.

What makes this rewarding

  • Genuine breadth of ownership. Payroll, management accounts, treasury, AP, AR these functions are yours to run. Few finance roles offer this span of control in one seat
  • International complexity. Consolidating 20 entities across 7 jurisdictions means real multi-currency, multi-regulatory, multi-GAAP exposure — not theoretical textbook work
  • A team to build. 15 people, 4 direct reports, and the mandate to develop capability, improve processes, and build succession. This is a leadership role, not just a technical one
  • A business that’s growing. NGP operates across the UK, Europe, India, and the Middle East. The finance function supports a complex, scaling, international group the challenges here won’t stand still

What’s in it for you

  • Competitive salary dependent on experience
  • 23 days holiday + additional December leave + bank holidays
  • Pension and access to Simplyhealth (money towards dental care, eyesight checks, physio, etc.)

Your first 90 days

  • Weeks 1–3: Structured induction into NGP’s finance function, systems, entity structures, and reporting cycles. You’ll meet stakeholders across the business, understand the current month-end close process, and get to grips with the team, their strengths, and their development needs
  • Weeks 4–8: You’re taking ownership. Month-end close, payroll cycles, and cash management start running through you. You’re reviewing team output, identifying process gaps, and beginning to shape improvements. Your direct reports are looking to you for direction and support
  • Weeks 9–12: You’re operating as the recognised leader of finance operations. Senior leadership relies on your reporting and commentary. You’ve identified your first process improvement priorities and your team development plan is taking shape. The Finance Operations Director sees you as a trusted operational partner
