Finance Operations Manager

We're looking for an experienced Finance Operations Manager to lead our transactional finance function, driving operational excellence, strong financial controls, and continuous process improvement in Cardiff.

This is a hands-on leadership role where you'll manage the Accounts Payable team while overseeing finance operations, purchasing processes, billing administration, and month-end support. You'll play a key role in improving systems, developing people, and ensuring finance delivers an efficient, high-quality service across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop the Accounts Payable team, setting clear objectives and performance standards.
  • Manage day-to-day finance operations, ensuring efficient delivery of Accounts Payable, purchasing support, and billing administration.
  • Drive continuous improvement through process optimisation, automation, and improved financial controls.
  • Oversee supplier payments, invoice processing, reconciliations, and purchasing compliance.
  • Support month-end activities, ensuring transactional finance deadlines are met.
  • Improve finance systems, workflows, and operational processes to increase efficiency and accuracy.
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders across the business, providing guidance on finance processes and controls.
  • Act as the escalation point for operational finance issues and lead initiatives that improve service delivery.

About You

You'll be an experienced finance leader with a strong background in transactional finance or finance operations, combined with excellent people management skills.

You'll ideally have:

  • Experience managing or leading Accounts Payable or Finance Operations teams.
  • Strong knowledge of finance processes, controls, and accounting principles.
  • A track record of improving processes and implementing operational efficiencies.
  • Experience using finance systems and advanced Excel skills.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • The ability to prioritise multiple workloads while leading and developing a high-performing team.

Desirable

  • AAT qualified, part-qualified ACCA/CIMA, or qualified by experience.
  • Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar ERP system.
  • Knowledge of procurement, purchasing controls, or finance system implementation.
