Finance Project Contractor 6 months Data Migration
£425 - £575 per day
This 6 month Finance Project Contractor role sits in the London finance function of a global multi-strategy investment management firm.
The Project Contractor will provide hands-on Finance support for legacy data validation, cleansing, mapping and reconciliation as part of the Oracle OMNI ERP implementation.
Responsibilities
Legacy data review and validation
- Review finance data extracted from SunSystems, including General ledger data, Chart of accounts, Legal entities, Cost centres, Analysis codes and reporting dimensions, Vendor master data, Customer master data, Open AP / AR items, Trial balances and account balances
- Validate completeness, accuracy, and reasonableness of extracted data
- Identify duplicate, dormant, incomplete, inconsistent, or obsolete records
- Review data quality issues and determine whether they can be corrected based on agreed rules or require Finance stakeholder input
- Prepare exception reports for senior Finance review
Data cleansing and remediation
- Support clean-up of legacy finance data before migration to Oracle
- Apply agreed cleansing rules consistently across master data and transactional/open-item data
- Track data issues, clean-up actions, owners, and resolution status
- Support decision-making on whether records should be retained, amended, merged, archived, or excluded from migration
- Identify recurring data quality issues and recommend practical remediation steps
Mapping and reconciliation
- Support mapping of SunSystems data structures to Oracle structures, including Chart of accounts, Entities, Cost centres, Intercompany codes, Reporting dimensions, Analysis codes
- Validate that mapping logic is applied consistently across data sets
- Perform reconciliations between SunSystems reports and extracted data, Extracted data and transformation files, Transformation files and Oracle-loaded data
- Investigate and explain reconciliation differences
- Prepare reconciliation summaries and supporting documentation for Finance sign-off

Documentation and audit trail
- Document data cleansing rules, mapping assumptions, validation procedures, and sign-off evidence
- Maintain clear records of data issues, decisions made, and outstanding exceptions
- Support preparation of migration control documentation and evidence for audit or governance review
- Ensure that key Finance decisions are captured clearly for future reference
Stakeholder support
- Work with senior Finance users to understand how legacy data is used for accounting, reporting, and control purposes
- Structure issues in a decision-ready format to minimize time required from senior stakeholders
- Liaise with project teams, IT, implementation partners, and business users to resolve data-related issues
- Communicate clearly and practically on status, risks, blockers, and required decisions
Requirements
Experience required
- Qualified Accountant, for example ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA or an internationally recognised equivalent. The level of post-qualification experience is less important than demonstrable analytical capability, systems aptitude and delivery ownership
- Strong accounting experience across areas such as general ledger, close, reconciliations, financial reporting, audit, controls or master data
- Strong understanding of chart of accounts, legal entities, cost centres, reporting dimensions and Finance master data
- Practical experience validating, analysing and reconciling Finance data, including identifying inconsistencies, duplicates, gaps, unusual balances or incomplete records
- Experience preparing reconciliations, exception reports, issue trackers and supporting documentation
- Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, data comparison and analysis of large data sets
- Data cleansing, data migration, finance transformation or ERP implementation experience is advantageous but not essential where the candidate demonstrates strong transferable capability
- SunSystems or Infor SunSystems experience is highly preferred; candidates with other legacy ERP experience and the ability to understand data structures quickly will also be considered
- Oracle ERP or Oracle Fusion experience, including open-item migration, master-data cleansing or chart-of-accounts mapping, is beneficial
- Hands-on and detail-oriented, with the willingness to work directly through data and reconciliation issues rather than operating only in an advisory capacity
- Proactive, curious and practical, with the confidence to challenge data that does not appear complete, accurate or fit for purpose
- Able to work independently, structure findings clearly and escalate only matters requiring senior Finance input or business judgement
- Comfortable operating in an evolving project environment and taking ownership of assigned activities through to completion
- Clear communicator able to work effectively with Finance, IT, project teams, implementation partners and senior stakeholders
- Strong understanding of general ledger structures, chart of accounts, reporting dimensions and accounting reconciliations
- Ability to distinguish between data-quality issues, mapping issues, system issues and matters requiring Finance business judgement
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including preparation of concise, decision-ready exception analysis
- Strong Excel capability; Power Query, Alteryx, SQL or Power BI experience is beneficial
- Strong documentation discipline and understanding of the need for complete, accurate and auditable migration evidence
