As a volunteer, you’ll support budgeting and resource management. With meetings twice per term, this role offers a chance to make a real impact on our 670 pupils.
What Difference Will You Make?
Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring that every pound is well spent, directly enhancing the educational experience of our pupils. By guiding our financial decisions, you will help:
- Secure the school’s long-term financial sustainability.
- Ensure resources are available to invest in teaching, learning, and community initiatives.
- Drive improvements in financial transparency and efficiency, ultimately supporting better outcomes for our children.
Your contribution as a finance-focused governor will not only help maintain the high standards at Grand Avenue Primary but also shape its future for the benefit of the entire community.
What Are We Looking For?
At Grand Avenue Primary and Nursery School, our co-opted governors play an important role in ensuring that every pound is spent wisely in support of our school improvement plan. We are looking for an individual with practical finance experience who is keen to contribute to our community—even if you don’t tick every single box.
What You’ll Bring
- Finance Experience: A background in budgeting, financial planning, or resource management is highly valued. We understand that you may not be an expert in every aspect of school governance, but your practical experience in managing finances will be a major asset.
- Analytical Insight: Your ability to review budgets, monitor expenditure, and interpret financial data will help support effective decision-making. A willingness to learn new methods and tools is just as important as any current expertise.
- Collaborative Spirit: You will work closely with the headteacher, business manager, and fellow governors. While prior governance experience is useful, your open-mindedness and readiness to work as part of a diverse team are equally important.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
