Finance Solution Architect
Rate: £690 per day (Umbrella)
Contract Length: 3–6 months (initial)
Location: London — 3 days per week onsite, 2 days remote
Job Purpose
The Finance Solution Architect is responsible for the end-to-end solution architecture of Finance technology initiatives, ensuring solutions are aligned to business objectives, enterprise architecture standards and the broader Finance technology strategy.
Working as part of the Finance Architecture team and alongside the Lead Finance Solution Architect, the role translates business requirements into scalable, supportable and secure technology solutions. Whilst the Lead Finance Solution Architect owns the overall Finance architecture vision, roadmap and target-state architecture, this role is accountable for leading solution architecture activities across assigned programmes and projects, ensuring solutions deliver business value whilst remaining aligned to the wider Finance architecture direction.
The role will partner closely with Finance stakeholders, Enterprise Architecture, product teams, delivery teams, suppliers and third-party implementation partners to provide architecture leadership throughout the solution lifecycle.
Responsibilities
Solution Architecture Leadership
- Lead the architecture, designs, decisions and governance of Finance technology solutions across the full project lifecycle
- Develop solution architectures that meet business requirements while adhering to enterprise architecture principles and standards
- Ensure solutions are scalable, resilient, secure and supportable
- Produce and maintain solution architecture documentation, models and decision records

Finance Domain Architecture
- Provide architecture expertise across key Finance domains including:
- Record to Report (R2R)
- Procure to Pay (P2P)
- Order to Cash (O2C)
- Treasury
- Tax
- Fixed Assets
- Ensure Finance solutions support both current operational requirements and future business objectives
SAP Finance Expertise
- Act as the solution architecture lead for specific SAP Finance-related initiatives
- Design and govern solutions leveraging SAP Finance capabilities, including:
- SAP S/4HANA Finance
- General Ledger
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Financial Reporting and Closing
- Promote the adoption of SAP best practices and standard capabilities wherever possible
- Review proposed changes and enhancements to ensure alignment with the overall SAP and Finance strategy
Architecture Governance
- Ensure all solutions comply with architecture standards, security policies, data governance requirements and technology roadmaps
- Present designs through Architecture Review Boards and governance forums where required
- Evaluate solution options and provide recommendations based on business outcomes, risk, cost and strategic fit
- Support technology lifecycle management and architecture compliance activities

- Provide architecture oversight throughout project delivery.
- Review detailed designs and implementation approaches to ensure alignment with approved architecture
- Support technical risk identification and mitigation
- Collaborate with project managers, business analysts, engineers and implementation partners to ensure successful solution delivery
- Support transition activities to ensure solutions are operationally ready
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Solution Architect within Finance technology, ideally in a large/complex enterprise environment
- Strong hands-on experience with SAP S/4HANA Finance, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Financial Reporting/Closing
- Solid understanding of core Finance process domains: Record to Report (R2R), Procure to Pay (P2P), Order to Cash (O2C), Treasury, Tax, Fixed Assets
- Experience producing solution architecture artefacts — architecture documents, models, decision records, design options papers
- Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks/governance (e.g. TOGAF, or in-house EA standards) and presenting to Architecture Review Boards
- Strong stakeholder management skills — able to work with Finance business stakeholders, Enterprise Architecture, delivery teams, and third-party implementation partners
- Experience working across the full project/delivery lifecycle, including risk identification and mitigation during implementation
