Role Purpose
Reporting to the Senior Finance Operations Manager, the Finance Systems Lead is the operational and strategic owner of the Club’s finance technology ecosystem, with Workday Financials at its core, and will act as the lead for the adoption of AI, automation and emerging technology across Finance.
The role is responsible for ensuring Finance systems are robust, well-controlled and used to their full potential, while identifying opportunities to simplify processes, automate manual activity, improve user experience, strengthen controls and enable better financial insight.
You will act as the key link between Finance, Business Analytics, Technology and the wider business, translating operational and business requirements into practical, scalable technology solutions.
A key part of the role will be shaping how Finance adopts AI. You will identify high-value use cases, develop and implement practical AI-enabled solutions, establish appropriate governance and controls, and build capability across the Finance team so that AI becomes embedded in day-to-day ways of working.
You will own and develop the Finance systems, automation and AI roadmap, balancing day-to-day system performance with longer-term transformation across Workday, Microsoft technologies, reporting platforms and the wider Finance technology landscape.
This is a hands-on Finance technology and transformation role, ideally suited to someone who thrives at the intersection of Finance, systems, data, automation and AI.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end administration, configuration and optimisation of Workday Financials and associated Finance systems
- Act as the internal Workday subject matter expert, supporting users and ensuring the platform continues to meet the evolving needs of Finance
- Own the Finance technology roadmap across systems, automation, reporting and AI, establishing clear priorities and delivering measurable improvements
- Act as the Finance lead for AI adoption, identifying and prioritising opportunities where AI can improve efficiency, controls, decision-making and financial insight
- Develop and implement practical AI and automation solutions across Finance, working with Technology and other teams to move opportunities from ideas and pilots into sustainable day-to-day processes
- Champion effective use of AI technologies across Finance, developing use cases, workflows and standards that enable teams to work more effectively
- Explore opportunities to apply AI and automation across areas including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, month-end, reconciliations, reporting, forecasting, financial analysis and Finance operations
- Establish appropriate governance for Finance AI use, ensuring solutions are secure, controlled, auditable and aligned with the Club’s wider technology, data and information-security policies
- Build AI capability across Finance through training, demonstrations, guidance and practical adoption, helping colleagues understand how AI can enhance rather than simply replicate existing processes
- Lead the Club’s continued adoption of Workday Financials, including system updates, enhancements and integrations, coordinating with Technology, Workday and third-party partners
- Collaborate closely with Finance and other teams to streamline processes and maintain data integrity across systems
- Drive best-practice use of Workday across General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, reporting and other Finance processes
- Support and improve Finance-related processes and integrations across Salesforce, Tableau, Microsoft technologies and other core Club systems
- Own appropriate Finance systems governance, including user access, security, change controls and segregation of duties
- Support month-end and year-end close from a systems, reporting, automation and AI perspective, continually identifying opportunities to reduce manual activity and improve control
- Develop and maintain financial reporting and dashboards, partnering with Business Analytics to improve the accessibility, automation and quality of Finance information
- Lead user training, change management, testing and onboarding as new systems, functionality, automation and AI capabilities are introduced
- Lead troubleshooting and issue resolution, managing Workday support cases and working with external partners where required
- Keep Finance informed of relevant developments in AI, automation and Finance technology, proactively assessing where emerging capabilities could create value for the Club

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
