POSITION SUMMARY

The Finance Trainee – Reinsurance role is within the Global Reinsurance Accounting team, with a focus primarily on supporting the internal controls, financial reporting and accounting for the RenaissanceRe group. The Finance Trainee – Reinsurance has close interaction across multiple areas of the business and works with the wider Global Finance Team to add value across relevant teams.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Technical Accounting & Financial Reporting

  • Assist with completing aspects of the monthly and quarterly close, including financial reporting, in compliance with US, or other relevant GAAP, or other regulatory requirements.
  • Help prepare and review detailed analysis and monthly/quarterly reconciliations, including reconciliation to the general ledger.
  • Support the continued enhancement and ongoing development of multiple financial systems ensuring that all Finance needs are met.
  • Help with preparation of accurate financial reporting, both for internal and external purposes following required GAAP and regulatory standards, including providing support for more technical areas.
  • Work with relevant partners to ensure accuracy of transactions and financial disclosure.
  • Communicate with our auditors.

Strategic Projects

  • Contribute to miscellaneous project work and provide general assistance to the Finance Department and other teams.
  • Provide ad-hoc support to the CAO, Global Corporate Controller and Business Leads.

May also be responsible:

  • Helping with the preparation of technical accounting memos observing US GAAP and help prepare more technically challenging accounting memos.
  • Ensure appropriate SOX 404 processes exist and are followed for preparation and submission of financial data.

EXPECTED COMPETENCIES

Educational/Professional Requirements

  • Degree in Accountancy/Finance or similar (e.g. Economics with Finance, Maths with Finance, Business Management).
  • Desire to complete professional accountancy qualification (e.g. ACCA/ACA) with exemptions achieved from degree preferred

Basic Competencies

  • Vocational or technical education in addition to prior work experience preferred.
  • Excellent numerical skills and keen attention to detail.
  • Strong Excel skills essential.
  • Applies strong technical skills and problem solving to achieve results.
  • Confident with both virtual and in-person communication.
  • Obtains feedback, learns from others’ experiences and takes responsibility for honing skills to improve job performance.
  • Regularly shares information and engages in dialogue with manager and peers.
  • Works toward team goals and end result and contributes in ways that benefit the entire team.
  • Consistently meets expectations excels when it matters most and responds quickly and effectively to resolve issues.

  • US GAAP financial reporting.
  • Working knowledge of general ledger systems and policy administration/accounting systems.
