Insurance Syndicate Accountant

Wise May are looking for a proactive, detail-orientated Insurance Syndicate Accountant to join a Global Reinsurer. Within this role you will assist the finance team to meet internal, Lloyd's and statutory deadlines by delivering accurate and timely financial processing, reconciliations, and regulatory.

Job Details

  • Type: Full time, 10 month contract position
  • Working Hours: 9am-5pm
  • Location: Hybrid working (3 days in the office / 2 remote)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintaining Financial Ledgers: Maintaining accurate SUN Accounts and Q&A ledgers, including year of account roll forwards, new year set up and class of business configuration. Ensure the SUN Accounts year-end close is completed accurately and on schedule, while preparing and posting the distribution journal closing each year of account accurately after 36 months.
  • Lloyd’s Central Account (LCA) System Owner: Responsible for preparing and posting monthly signings and settled direct journals within month-end deadlines, while completing accurate LCA reconciliations, ensuring any discrepancies are identified, evidenced, assigned, and resolved promptly.
  • Managing Agency (SMAL) management accounts (QF1/AF1): Responsible for delivering accurate and complete ledger entries for Managing Agency, including journal postings to trial balance. Ensures accruals, prepayments, fixed assets, managing agency fees, bank transactions, and tax entries are processed accurately, fully supported, and completed within reporting deadlines.
  • Expense Management: Responsible for overseeing quarterly group recharges, ensuring staff and service costs are accurately recorded and fully supported. Calculates and manages accruals and prepayments to ensure expenses are recognized correctly within the appropriate accounting period.
  • Investment Management: Responsible for completing accurate and timely investment reconciliations, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly. Ensures compliance with key portfolio controls, including issuer concentration and credit rating checks, while escalating any breaches or exceptions as required.

  • Experience within the Lloyd's or London Market insurance sector
  • Experience with reconciliation and financial reporting
  • Working towards an accountancy qualification (preferred)
  • Experience working with external auditors and third-party service providers
  • Experience of using Sun Ledger
  • Knowledge of LCA (Lloyds Central Account)
