Financial Accountant | Part Qualified / Finalist (Active Studier) | City of London | Insurance | Hybrid Working

Your new company
A growing insurance organisation is seeking a Financial Accountant to join its London finance team. Operating within the specialist insurance market, the business continues to expand and invest in its finance function, creating an excellent opportunity for a newly qualified accountant seeking to develop their career within a dynamic and evolving sector. The finance team plays a critical role in delivering high-quality financial reporting, regulatory compliance and management information to support commercial decision-making across the business. This position offers excellent exposure to technical insurance accounting, financial reporting and stakeholder engagement within a collaborative and supportive environment.

Your new role
As Financial Accountant, you will take ownership of a broad range of financial reporting and accounting responsibilities, working closely with finance and operational stakeholders across the business. The position is ideally suited to a part-qualified accountant or finalist level candidate who is actively studying and looking to build upon their technical accounting knowledge whilst gaining exposure to insurance-specific reporting, regulatory requirements and strategic finance activities.

  • Ownership of the month-end close process, ensuring general ledger and trial balance reporting is completed accurately and on time.
  • Preparation of monthly Profit & Loss statements and Balance Sheets.
  • Preparation and posting of technical insurance and reinsurance journal entries.
  • Reviewing insurance transactions and validating the accounting treatment against contractual arrangements.
  • Preparing statutory financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting standards.
  • Supporting the completion of regulatory returns and compliance reporting requirements.
  • Assisting with direct and indirect tax reporting obligations and associated filings.
  • Preparing premium, claims and commission reporting for external stakeholders and insurance partners.
  • Producing financial analysis and management information to support business performance monitoring.
  • Preparing audit working papers and lead schedules to support the year-end audit process.
  • Acting as a key contact for auditors and assisting with the resolution of audit queries.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Part qualified or finalist ACA, ACCA or CIMA accountant and actively studying towards completion
  • Previous experience within the insurance sector is essential
  • Strong understanding of insurance accounting principles and financial reporting requirements.
  • Knowledge of UK GAAP, IFRS and international accounting standards.
  • Experience preparing monthly management accounts and financial reporting packs.
  • Experience preparing or supporting statutory accounts.
  • Exposure to regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Strong Excel skills, including formulas, lookups and pivot tables.
