Financial Accountant

Recently Qualified ACA/ACCA Financial Accountant

The Europe Finance team at APCO is seeking a recently qualified, motivated Financial Accountant to join our global finance function based in London. This role focuses on statutory accounting, reporting, tax compliance, treasury, and financial transformation across multiple European markets.


About the Role

You’ll be a key member of the Europe Finance team, reporting to the Financial Controller, Europe, and playing a vital role in ensuring high-quality financial reporting, governance, and process enhancement. This opportunity offers hands-on experience across a variety of finance functions, including:

  • Collaborative governance with Corporate Finance, regional teams, and external advisers.
  • Cross-border financial oversight involving varying local and US GAAP requirements.
  • Technology and process improvement projects, including ERP automation (Maconomy is the system in use).

Ideal candidates are proactive, analytically strong, and curious, able to identify opportunities for efficiency and drive finance transformation while contributing to a supportive and inclusive team.


Key Responsibilities

1. Statutory Reporting & Compliance

  • Assist with regional statutory reporting across European jurisdictions, including:
    • Liaison with local external accounting advisers
    • Coordination of audit deliverables
    • Preparation of supporting filing schedules and follow-up for local statutory compliance

2. Tax, VAT & Treasury Support

  • Support tax (including VAT) and treasury-related activities, such as:
    • Real-time VAT reporting and e-invoicing initiatives
    • Cashflow forecasting and liquidity management
    • Analysis of cash management responses for Corporate Finance or external advisers

3. Audit Support

  • Work closely with the Financial Controller and team to:
    • Plan and execute regional audit activities
    • Prepare and collate audit information
    • Coordinate with local office teams and advisers
    • Track open items and ensure deadline adherence

4. Finance Transformation & Systems Modernisation

  • Drive regional and global finance projects including:
    • Vendor transformation
    • Payroll process improvements
    • Automation and technology adoption
    • Translating project discussions into actionable timelines and managing European contributions

5. Process Improvement & Controls

  • Identify ways to simplify, standardise, or automate accounting processes, including:
    • Documenting and communicating process changes
    • Conducting training workshops where necessary
    • Strengthening internal controls with a continuous improvement mindset

6. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with:
    • Local office teams
    • External advisers
    • APCO’s Corporate Finance and regional colleagues
  • Communicate clearly, listen actively, and ensure alignment in all financial activities

7. Month-End & Budget Support

  • Assist in month-end close, forecasting, and budget activities, ensuring:
    • Accuracy and completeness of financial reports
    • Timely delivery of reporting requirements

Essential

  • ACA or ACCA qualification, preferably recently qualified (ideally within 2-3 years of qualification).
  • Audit background recommended, with exposure to:
    • Professional services or multi-entity international environments (e.g., consulting, marketing, communications).
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge in:
    • Financial accounting, audit, and internal controls
    • Statutory reporting across multiple jurisdictions
    • Ability to compare and apply local GAAPs and US GAAP differences
  • Ability to work effectively with external advisers and adapt to varying compliance demands.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and familiarity with ERP systems (desirable).
  • Strong analytical problem-solving abilities, with a focus on process improvement.

  • Experience with real-time financial reporting and automation tools.
  • Proactive, collaboration-focused mindset that thrives in a matrix organisation.
