As we continue to grow, we're looking for creative, collaborative people who are passionate about great storytelling and want to help shape the future of sports media by creating content that fans genuinely care about.
Your Role
We are looking for an experienced and proactive Financial Accountant to join our Manchester based finance team during an exciting period of growth. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role will support the delivery of accurate financial reporting, strong financial controls and meaningful commercial insight with a particular focus on our new business.
This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys working in a fast-moving media environment and wants to play a key role in supporting a growing production and digital media business.

As a Financial Accountant at The Overlap, you will:
Key Responsibilities
- Identify and implement process efficiencies while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and best practice.
- Work with production teams to ensure accurate recognition and reconciliation of production revenues and costs.
- Complete month-end and year-end close processes, including journals, accruals and reconciliations.
- Produce monthly management accounts with variance analysis.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations ensuring accuracy and compliance with internal controls.
- Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to queries.
- Partner with the business to provide actionable data and insights
What You’ll Need
The ideal candidate will be proactive and willing to develop and implement innovative solutions, capable of the following:
- Qualified ACCA, CIMA or equivalent, or part-qualified with a minimum of 3 years of experience.
- Sound understanding of finance or accounting roles, with a focus on balance sheet management, reconciliations, and cash management.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial analysis techniques, and cash flow management strategies.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems (e.g, Xero or Workday) and advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide meaningful insights to stakeholders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and compliance, capable of managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- A background working in a broadcast or television production company would be a bonus, but not essential.
- Experience of change and business integration would be desirable.
