Job Overview
Are you looking to gain further experience in a Finance role?
Charles River Laboratories are recruiting a Financial Accountant to join our Global Finance Department based in Edinburgh. This is a hybrid role, with expectation to be onsite 1-2 days a week.
In this role, you’ll be responsible for the timely preparation and submission of statutory accounts, VAT filings, tax returns and other compliance documents for relevant entities and collates and submits data required for external and internal audits. You’ll partner and collaborate with other finance group specialists across other Charles River entities and build and foster excellent relationships.
This role would suit someone who is part-qualified or very recently qualified and looking to build on some industry led experience in a Finance Accountancy role with a global organisation.
Job Description
What you’ll be doing:
- Participate and assist in the execution of the accounting close for your entities, ensuring that financial accounting data is compiled in an accurate and timely manner
- Complete tasks and track progress against a detailed month end calendar for the closing process.
- Prepare and/or post monthly journal entries in blackline ensuring calculations are included in the support workings.
- Learn which accounting policies need to be followed to ensure compliance. This will be in accordance with US GAAP, company policies and Country GAAP standards.
- Balance Sheet management: prepare and post monthly balance sheet account reconciliations on blackline ensuring calculations are included in the support workings.
- Income statement management: prepare and assist the International Financial Accounting Manager with the review of the draft Income Statement to the Business Finance team in monthly meetings.
- Responsible for ensuring the timely preparation of VAT filings, tax returns and other compliance documents for your entities.
- Build and maintain excellent relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and colleagues.
- Undertake any other tasks as reasonably requested by your line manager and to ensure that your work is conducted in a cooperative and flexible manner.
- Responsible for ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures, where applicable, to Charles River’s standard of quality.

Skills And Experience
Education: Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) or equivalent in Accounting/Finance or related discipline.
Experience: Some industry-led experience in a related Financial Accountant role is essential. In particular experience of reporting in accordance with UK GAAP/IFRS.
Additional experience of reporting to US GAAP and/or other entities is highly advantageous for this role.
- Excellent communication and communication skills, and attention to detail.
- Demonstrable experience of using Blackline or other financial software platforms.
Candidates must have full and permanent Right to Work in the UK as we cannot provide sponsorship for this role.
The salary range for the role is £35,000 - £45,000/annum + bonus + benefits. Please note that the salary varies within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.

Each year approximately 300 investigational new drug (IND) programs are conducted in our Safety Assessment facilities.
