About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced Financial Accountant to join a leading London-based university. Sitting within the Financial Accounting, Tax & Treasury team, this role offers exposure to a broad range of tax, treasury, financial accounting and compliance activities, while providing specialist advice across the institution and its subsidiary entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on tax compliance activities across the University and subsidiary companies, including VAT, Gift Aid, Corporation Tax, Customs & Excise and other tax obligations
  • Prepare and submit tax returns, annual adjustments, Capital Goods Scheme reviews and compliance reporting
  • Act as the main point of contact for HMRC, external advisors and regulatory bodies
  • Support financial accounting and treasury activities, including cash forecasting, balance sheet management and financial reporting
  • Contribute to month-end and year-end processes, statutory accounts preparation and audit requirements
  • Take responsibility for the financial administration, reporting and tax affairs of at least one University subsidiary company
  • Provide specialist tax and financial advice to stakeholders, responding to complex queries across the institution
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen financial controls, reporting accuracy and compliance

Candidate Profile

  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with relevant post-qualification experience
  • Tax qualification (CTA or equivalent), or currently studying towards one
  • Strong background in financial accounting, tax and treasury within a complex organisation
  • Experience preparing tax returns, compliance reporting and working with external advisors
  • Knowledge of Oracle Fusion or a similar ERP system is desirable
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication and organisational skills
