Sheridan Maine is delighted to be working with an established and successful organisation to recruit a Financial Accountant – Projects & Investments.
This is a genuinely interesting opportunity for a qualified accountant who enjoys the variety of a broad finance role and has a passion for improving processes, developing systems and finding better ways of working.
Working as part of a small and collaborative team within a Family Office environment, you will combine your accounting expertise with responsibility for investment and wealth reporting, financial reporting, corporate governance and a range of projects focused on process improvement, systems and technology.
This role would suit an accountant looking for something different from a traditional finance position, offering a broad remit and the opportunity to influence and improve the way the organisation operates.
There is also excellent scope for progression, with the opportunity to develop into a Senior Manager position and ultimately take on broader responsibility for the operations of the office.
The role is based near the Somerset/Dorset border, with hybrid working available following an initial training and probationary period.
The Role
You will support the delivery of finance, investment reporting and compliance activities, whilst also taking the lead on a number of strategic projects and process improvements.
Your Responsibilities Will Include
- Supporting the delivery and continuous improvement of wealth and investment reporting.
- Assisting with investment performance reporting, asset revaluations and intercompany reconciliations.
- Reviewing wealth reporting information, ensuring accuracy and delivery within agreed timescales.
- Preparing and maintaining loan summaries, schedules, asset statements and supporting financial information.
- Developing and maintaining effective systems and records for investment information, including loans and mortgages.
- Supporting the preparation and management-level review of management accounts, financial statements, VAT returns and audit information across a number of entities.
- Supporting the finance activities relating to a pension scheme and a small number of limited companies.
- Ensuring corporate governance and company secretarial requirements are met, including statutory filings, registers and corporate records.
- Identifying opportunities to improve finance, reporting and compliance processes through automation and technology.
- Leading projects from initial concept through to implementation, including project planning, system specifications, testing and user adoption.
- Working with internal stakeholders, suppliers and management to successfully implement new systems and improvements.
- Supporting and training colleagues in the effective use of new technologies, systems and processes.
- Driving a continuous programme of process and efficiency improvements across the organisation.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
