Position Overview

This role is a 12-month fixed-term position providing maternity cover within the UK&I Finance team to ensure financial reporting accuracy and contribute to an effective internal control environment. The Financial Reporting Accountant plays a critical role in ensuring the company’s finance & accounting functions are properly managed and that all internal and external reporting requirements are met on a timely basis. The role will support broad company initiatives and interact with key internal and external stakeholders.

Reporting into the Finance Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining financial records, performing comprehensive financial analysis, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements. This role involves supporting on the month-end closing process and the wider financial and statutory reporting requirements of the UK&I business. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.

Duties

  • Supporting the Finance Manager in the planning, preparation, and delivery of statutory accounts to agreed timetables
  • Lead on the production of key consolidations within the remit of UK teams reporting requirements, with the support of the Financial Director and Finance Manager
  • Production of monthly/quarterly debt and investor reporting requirements
  • Support internal and external audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations
  • Preparation of VAT Return workings and associated reconciliations
  • Support the Management Accounting team in maintaining and updating general ledger accounts by ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards (e.g., GAAP, IFRS) and regulatory requirements
  • Completing key account reconciliations to review and clear balance sheet control accounts on a monthly basis, including payroll and Intercompany accounts, and maintaining appropriate documentation to support the audit
  • Support with maintenance of Fixed Asset Registers and depreciation
  • Conduct variance analysis to compare actual results with budgets and forecasts, explaining any significant differences
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process and assist in the preparation of forecasts
  • Ensure the Company’s internal financial control systems, processes and policies are complied with by UK&I operations, including purchasing controls and payment authorisation
  • Continuously review and improve processes and procedures to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the financial close process

Job Requirements

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
  • Strong technical accountancy skills
  • Experience of producing consolidated financial statements preferred
  • Experience of preparing financial statements with financial statement software (preferably Caseware)
  • Ability to work quickly to a high level of accuracy with attention to detail
  • Ability to communicate and build relationships effectively across all areas of the business
  • Self-starter, ability to work independently, problem solve and drive projects to completion
  • Ability to design and implement new processes, not just work within existing ones.
  • Results driven, ability to deliver to tight deadlines in a fast paced business
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, strongly preferred
  • Able to plan, organize and prioritise workload to meet deadlines
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to communicate internally with team members as well as externally with vendors and other service providers
  • Ability to work on a hybrid basis; 3 days in the office as a minimum
