Financial Accountant
Permanent, Full Time
Salary: £45,000 - £50,000 per annum + annual company bonus
Working: 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday
Location: Winnersh, Wokingham RG41 5TP (Hybrid)
Smollan are looking for a Financial Accountant to join their Finance Shared Service team. This role will help the team ensure a robust control environment while delivering accurate, timely financial results in an efficient manner. Reporting into the Head of Finance Shared Services, the role focuses on delivery of seamless, accurate and complete month end processes while ensuring compliance with accounting regulations.
What you'll be doing:

Financial Close & Reporting:
- Manage the monthly financial close for assigned UK entities to strict deadlines.
- Prepare first-round reviews of financial results to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with expectations.

Balance Sheet & General Ledger Ownership:
- Take full ownership of accounting for bonuses, commissions, royalties, accruals, prepayments, provisions, FX rate postings, and general journal entries.

Treasury & Intercompany Management:
- Oversee treasury back-office tasks, loan interest, funding and intercompany agreements, intercompany allocations, bank approvals, and monthly bank reconciliations.

Tax & Compliance:
- Direct the preparation and submission of VAT returns, support business-specific revenue recognition and cost recharges, and lead preparation for the Group Annual Audit (UK GAAP).

Reporting & Analysis:
- Monitor and produce regular reporting on fixed assets, project accounting, debtors, creditors, and key financial KPIs.
- Promptly investigate and resolve cost allocation and accounting queries with business partners.

Process Improvement:
- Collaborate with the Head of Finance Shared Services to streamline operational accounting workflows, drive system enhancements, and improve close efficiency.

People Management:
- Direct, mentor, and support one Assistant Accountant, conducting regular check-ins and performance reviews to foster continuous growth and operational excellence within the team.
What we are looking for:
- Part qualified ACCA accountant with a proven experience in commercial finance/transactional roles.
- Good knowledge of financial systems, processes, and regulations.
- Enthusiastic team player with positive and a professional attitude.
- Ability to work to strict deadlines.
- Competent MS Excel user (v-lookups, pivot tables).
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Good organisation and prioritisation skills.
- Good understanding of financial processes.
- Ability to navigate in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Willingness to understand and document current processes and ensure the best practices are in place.
Systems: SAP BPC, Board, Dynamics 365 Finance, Chrome River, Medius Flow, Blackline, SAP SAC, Microsoft Office (Advanced)
