About the Opportunity
This opportunity is for experienced accounting professionals, controllers, and senior auditors to contribute their expertise to an advanced AI research and evaluation project with Mercor.
You will develop realistic accounting scenarios, reference outputs, and evaluation rubrics across financial reporting, technical accounting, audit and assurance, complex transactions, and internal controls. The work is designed around the complexity and materiality considerations encountered in major public companies and enterprise accounting environments.
Experts with expertise in either U.S. GAAP/PCAOB standards or IFRS/International Standards on Auditing are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Construct realistic accounting scenarios covering financial statement preparation, technical accounting research, auditing, and complex transaction accounting.
- Develop tasks involving financial reporting, technical accounting, audit and assurance, internal controls, and SOX compliance.
- Create scenarios involving M&A, revenue recognition, lease accounting, consolidation, and other complex accounting matters.
- Apply relevant accounting methodologies and professional standards to develop accurate reference materials.
- Work across U.S. GAAP/ASC Codification and PCAOB standards or IFRS and ISA, depending on the applicable track.
- Produce reference outputs such as financial statements, technical accounting memos, audit workpapers, and internal control assessments.
- Develop evaluation rubrics that measure professional accounting judgment, accuracy, and reasoning quality.
- Review AI-generated accounting outputs and identify technical errors, unsupported conclusions, or gaps in reasoning.
- Ensure evaluation criteria reflect real-world accounting and audit practice rather than textbook or CPA-exam-level knowledge.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
