Hugh James Independent Financial Advisers is the dedicated financial planning team at Hugh James, a top 100 full-service UK law firm. With offices in Cardiff, London, Manchester, Southampton, and Plymouth, our advisers provide truly independent financial advice across the UK for private individuals and businesses.
Role Description
The Financial Administrator / Trainee Paraplanner will provide support to financial advisers and the wider team in a full-time role based in Cardiff. Day-to-day responsibilities include:
- Preparing and maintaining client records
- Assisting with financial planning reports
- Supporting the delivery of advice by gathering and analysing client information
- Managing documentation and correspondence
- Coordinating appointments
- Ensuring accurate data entry into financial and client management systems

The individual will help with research into financial products and solutions, liaise with clients and providers to obtain required information, and ensure compliance with regulatory and firm procedures. This position offers development opportunities towards a paraplanning career path, with training and mentoring provided.

Qualifications
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and external providers
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and maintaining precise records
- Comfortable with using financial software, CRM systems, and standard office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Relevant foundation in finance, accounting, business, or a related discipline; progress toward professional financial planning qualifications is an advantage
- Understanding of or willingness to learn about regulatory requirements and compliance frameworks in financial services
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and demonstrate a proactive, client-focused approach
