Part-Time Accounts Assistant - Maternity Cover
Three Bridges Recruitment is recruiting for a part-time Accounts Assistant for an established business in East Lothian. This is a maternity cover contract, expected to last around 10 to 12 months. The current member of the team finishes soon, ideally, there will be a good handover before they leave.
It is a varied accounts role within a busy, down-to-earth working environment. You will report directly to the Accountant and work closely with the wider team.
The Role
There is plenty of variety here, with responsibility across accounts, payments and payroll. Your day to day work will include:
- Processing a high volume of supplier invoices
- Bank reconciliations
- Posting journals
- Processing supplier payments
- Processing incoming and outgoing payments
- Supporting customer invoicing in a high-volume environment
- Processing weekly payroll for around 35 employees
- Processing timesheets and variable hours
- Supporting wider finance administration as required

The business uses Xero for accounts, Sage 50 for payroll and Dext for supplier payment processes, so experience with these systems would be beneficial.
What We Are Looking For
Previous accounts experience is important, but payroll experience is useful for this role.
You should be comfortable working in a busy environment where there is a relatively high volume of transactions and accuracy matters. We are looking for someone who:
- Has previous accounts, finance or bookkeeping experience
- Has hands on payroll experience
- Is confident with bank reconciliations, journals and supplier payments
- Has good attention to detail
- Can organise their own workload and work independently
- Is comfortable using finance systems, ideally Xero, Sage 50 and Dext
- Enjoys being part of a small, friendly team
Hours and Working Pattern
The role is 21 hours per week. There is flexibility to spread these hours across three, four or five days. A pattern such as 10am to 2pm could work, although this can be discussed.

The business is looking for someone who can become a reliable part of the team rather than simply provide short term cover. There could be scope for something longer term after the maternity contract, although that cannot be guaranteed at this stage.
