Finance Assistant (Transactional Finance / Reconciliations / Month End)

Location: Newcastle Upon Tyne | Hybrid after Initial Training

Salary: £27,000 to £30,000

Type: Full-time, 9 Month Fixed Term Contract

Overview

A growing consumer and retail business is looking to appoint a Finance Assistant to support the day to day running of its finance function during an important period of change and process improvement.

This is a broad transactional finance role covering reconciliations, banking, accounts receivable, supplier payments, cashbook management and month end support. The business is currently building and implementing new finance processes, so the successful candidate will also play an important part in helping embed new ways of working and improving the efficiency of the wider finance function.

The role is initially offered on a 9 month fixed term contract with an ASAP start. There is potential for the position to become permanent depending on individual performance and the ongoing requirements of the team, although this cannot be guaranteed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complete high volume payment processor reconciliations and resolve discrepancies
  • Prepare bank payments and complete weekly bank reconciliations
  • Raise customer invoices and support credit control activity
  • Record customer receipts and maintain accurate customer account information
  • Maintain company cashbooks within the ERP system
  • Review financial data imported from multiple sales channels and maintain general ledger accuracy
  • Prepare weekly supplier payment schedules and ensure credits and discounts are applied correctly
  • Support month end close including journals, balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules
  • Assist with preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Support the implementation and improvement of new finance processes across the business

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
