We are a successful and expanding Tool Hire business looking for an enthusiastic and organised Finance Assistant to join our friendly Accounts Team.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone seeking to start or develop a career in finance. Full training will be provided, along with ongoing support from our Finance Management Team, giving the successful candidate the opportunity to progress into more senior finance roles in the future.

About the Role

The primary focus of the role will be processing new trade account applications from prospective customers and ensuring all customer due diligence checks are completed accurately and efficiently.

The successful candidate will also provide support to our Credit Controller and Purchase Ledger Clerk, gaining valuable exposure to a variety of finance functions within a busy commercial environment.

This role would suit someone who is detail-orientated, eager to learn, and enjoys working with customers, suppliers and colleagues across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Customer Account Administration

  • Processing new trade account applications.
  • Conducting credit checks and assessing customer information.
  • Reviewing identification documents and supporting paperwork.
  • Verifying insurance documents, including Hired-In Plant Insurance.
  • Requesting and obtaining trade references.
  • Setting up approved customer accounts on our Syrinx hire management system.
  • Preparing and issuing customer welcome packs and account documentation.
  • Maintaining accurate customer records and digital filing systems.
  • Liaising with customers regarding account applications and documentation requirements.

Credit Control Support

  • Assisting with customer account queries.
  • Providing copy invoices and statements.
  • Supporting collection of outstanding debts.
  • Updating customer account records.
  • Assisting with credit limit reviews and account monitoring.

Purchase Ledger Support

  • Assisting with supplier invoice processing.
  • Supporting supplier statement reconciliations.
  • Helping resolve supplier invoice queries.
  • Maintaining supplier records and documentation.

General Finance Duties

  • Data entry and administration.
  • Maintaining accurate records and filing systems.
  • Assisting with reporting and finance projects.
  • Supporting the wider finance team as required.

What We're Looking For

Essential Skills

  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good organisational and time management skills.
  • Confident written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word.
  • Ability to work accurately and manage multiple tasks.
  • Positive and professional attitude.

Desirable

  • Previous office administration experience.
  • Experience within finance, accounts or credit control.
  • Experience using accounting or business systems.
  • Knowledge of the construction, plant hire or tool hire industry.
