Financial Controller

Core3 is delighted to be working with an established Financial Services organisation in Bristol to recruit a Financial Controller. This is a key role within the finance team, with responsibility for strengthening the day-to-day finance operation, developing the team and creating more efficient ways of working.

Why join our client

This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of a finance function and make practical improvements that will last. You'll have the freedom to review how things are currently done, strengthen financial controls and tackle historic issues rather than simply maintaining existing processes.

You'll work closely with senior finance leadership while managing and developing the wider team. The organisation is looking for someone who brings ideas, takes responsibility and enjoys finding simpler, more effective ways of working.

How you'll make an impact

  • Take ownership of day-to-day financial control and ensure the finance function runs effectively
  • Review management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations, resolving issues and improving accuracy
  • Strengthen financial controls, documentation and core finance processes
  • Lead statutory reporting, audit preparation and key compliance requirements
  • Oversee payroll accounting, reconciliations and pension processing
  • Manage HMRC requirements, including corporation tax payments, P11Ds and PSA reporting
  • Oversee short-term cash deposits, treasury activity and payment approvals
  • Deliver regulatory and other external financial reporting
  • Investigate historic accounting issues and take ownership through to resolution
  • Identify opportunities to automate, simplify and improve finance processes
  • Provide clear updates and financial insight to senior finance leadership
  • Line manage the finance team, with a particular focus on coaching and developing the Management Accountant

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
