Our client is a well-established, privately owned SME with a turnover of approximately £12m, seeking an experienced Financial Controller to support the CFO and take ownership of the day-to-day finance function.

This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys operating within a growing business where they can take ownership, improve processes and play a key role in supporting commercial decision making. The successful candidate will oversee one junior finance team member while remaining actively involved in the day-to-day finance function.

The Role

Reporting directly to the CFO, responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting the CFO across all aspects of the finance function.
  • Owning the month-end close process through to the production of draft management accounts.
  • Managing cash flow forecasting and reporting.
  • Overseeing the Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable functions.
  • Maintaining strong financial controls and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Managing VAT, payroll and statutory compliance.
  • Leading the year-end audit process and coordinating with external auditors.
  • Identifying and implementing improvements to financial processes and reporting.
  • Supporting budgeting, forecasting and ad hoc commercial analysis.
  • Providing day-to-day oversight and support to a junior member of the finance team

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
