Job Title
Vertex Associates are proud to be partnering with a growing retail business in hiring a Financial Controller on a permanent basis. This is a hybrid role consisting of 3 days per week in the office, and 2 from home.
About the Role
This role will be responsible for the day to day management of the finance function, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with statutory requirements, effective cash flow management, and the implementation of strong financial controls. The role will partner closely with senior leadership to provide strategic financial insights and support business decision-making.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual management accounts
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to senior management
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Produce financial analysis, KPIs, forecasts, and business performance reports
- Support the Head of Finance with the budgeting and re-forecasting processes
- Maintain robust financial controls, policies, and procedures
- Manage the annual audit process and act as the primary contact for external auditors
- Oversee VAT, corporation tax, and other regulatory filings
- Continuously improve financial systems and processes
- Monitor the company cash flow
- Develop cash forecasting model
- Optimise working capital through effective management of receivables, payables, and inventory
- Responsibility for Credit control
- Work closely with department heads to support commercial decision making
- Support the business with providing brand reporting information for our brand partners
- Provide financial modelling and analysis for strategic initiatives
- Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and business performance
- Support acquisition, investment, and growth projects where required
- Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team
- Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high performance
- Ensure appropriate training and development plans are in place

Requirements
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
- Significant experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance management role
- Strong technical accounting knowledge
- Experience managing audits and statutory reporting requirements
- Advanced Excel and financial systems experience
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong leadership and people management capabilities
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders
