Financial Controller

East Midlands (some travel required) | Salary up to £65,000 + 10% Bonus

OVERVIEW

AtkinsClarke are supporting the appointment of a Financial Controller on behalf of a Private Equity-backed, high-growth business operating within the services sector across the UK.

This is a pivotal role within the Group's finance function, combining financial control of the central finance cost centres with full ownership of Group treasury and cash flow management. Cash flow is of paramount importance to the business, and this role will own it end-to-end - managing the Group's day-to-day cash position while building cash flow forecasting that goes beyond simple projection to genuinely understand the key drivers and levers available to improve the Group's cash position.

Operating a robust buy-and-build strategy with an expanding national footprint, the Group is entering an exciting new phase of growth through both organic performance improvement and targeted acquisitions.

OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Director of FP&A, the Financial Controller will lead the central finance team while taking full ownership of cash flow management & Group treasury. This is a hands-on role suited to someone comfortable operating in an agile, fast-paced, acquisitive environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning the Group's day-to-day cash management, ensuring every operating entity has the funds it needs
  • Building and continuously improving cash flow forecasting to develop a genuine understanding of the drivers behind the Group's cash position
  • Managing banking relationships, facilities, and treasury operations, including intercompany funding
  • Owning central finance budgets, month-end actuals, and variance analysis for the Group's central cost centres
  • Overseeing the purchase ledger function and driving process improvement and standardisation across central finance
  • Leading, coaching, and developing the central finance team, including purchase ledger and junior management accountants
  • Supporting the onboarding and integration of newly acquired businesses into Group treasury and central finance processes

PERSON

We are looking for a qualified accountant with strong technical grounding in both financial control and treasury, and the resilience to thrive in a fast-paced, PE-backed environment.

You will ideally demonstrate:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA) or qualified by experience, with post-qualification experience in financial control and/or treasury
  • Proven experience managing Group or multi-entity cash flow, including forecasting and treasury management
  • Experience managing a central finance function, including purchase ledger and team leadership
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge alongside excellent Excel and financial modelling skills
  • Commercial astuteness with a genuine curiosity about the drivers behind the numbers
  • A hands-on, adaptable approach, comfortable operating at both detailed and strategic level
  • Experience supporting acquisition integration would be advantageous
